Text/Chen Guangbin

Following the novel "Wolf Smoke and Blood Light", its sequel "Green Mountains and Wind Bones" has met readers again. This is another masterpiece by writer Tian Bin on the theme of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in the Daqingshan Revolutionary Base Area.

"Green Mountains and Bones" has further developed compared with "Wolf Smoke and Blood Light". The theme of the work has been further explored and deepened, its artistic techniques have become more mature, the characters have become fuller, and the storyline has become more tortuous. The work profoundly shows that the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians in Daqingshan fought hard to fight the invaders, blocked the Japanese army's westward advance, and made great contributions to the defense of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningbo Revolutionary Base Area, the defense of Yan'an, and the defense of the Party Central Committee.

"Green Mountains and Bones" is not only a sequel to "Wolf Smoke and Blood", the characters are closely related to the development of the storyline, and it is also a masterpiece with strong independence. It relatively independently and completely shows the magnificent war scenes of the military and people in the Daqingshan Revolutionary Base Area to resist the Japanese imperialist invaders, positively praises the heroic spirit of the Eighth Route Army and the local people who are not afraid of sacrifice and bloody battles, and creates lifelike characters such as Lai Feng, Tang Liang, Tang Zhaobing, Tang Sanliang, Zhang Jufu, Black Phoenix, Adjutant Zhang, "Little Devil", and Heidao.

As one of the positive characters, Tang Liang has been profoundly expressed in his works. This is a typical image of the peasant, in which he embodies the traditional ideas and virtues of the Chinese peasant, but also exposes the serious flaws of the Chinese peasant. He is simple, upright, stubborn, and righteous, and has the spirit of resistance that is not humiliated and unbending. At the same time, under the influence of feudal traditional thinking, he was conservative, stubborn, and despised women, and had a strong feudal consciousness. He has prestige and assertiveness in his family and rural society, and his sense of justice has won the respect of family members and villagers. However, the deep-rooted feudal traditional morality also fueled his unmistakable machismo. His paternalistic style limited his horizons, so that he was short-sighted and could not see the broader prospects of the revolution. Therefore, when the revolution was frustrated, he was confused and pessimistic.

In the cruel war environment, the Communist Party and the Eighth Route Army brought hope to Tang Liang and hope to the Chinese peasants. In the smelting of blood and fire, Tang Liang gradually realized the flaws in his body. In the arduous struggle, he matured step by step, and eventually became a selfless and fearless revolutionary.

Commander Yao in the work is a senior general of our army, although he does not write much about this character, but he highlights his character traits and leaves a deep impression. In some previous works, the depiction of high-level characters often fell into the trap of stereotype and conceptualization. In "The Wind and Bones of the Green Mountains", the author has a very good grasp of this character, which not only highlights the military talent of the senior general who has the overall situation in mind and commands, but also shows the civilian consciousness in his daily life. The witty language and optimistic character showed the revolutionary fighting spirit of the communists in the arduous war years. He embodies love and hate, expresses his joys, sorrows, and sorrows, flesh and blood, vivid, and is a figure that can be seen and touched, not an unattainable loft in the sky.

"The Wind and Bones of the Green Mountains" highlights the party's united front policy, which is one of the magic weapons that our party has been able to achieve victories in all revolutionary struggles. In the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Eighth Route Army resolutely implemented the party's policy, united all forces that could be united, and united its guns with the outside world. In the work, the character of the black phoenix is successfully portrayed, and it is a model for our party to strive for all anti-Japanese forces. As the commander of the "Black Donkey Bandits", Black Phoenix, she was once a woman who was bullied by feudal society. In order to take revenge, she became the leader of the murderous black donkey team, robbing the rich, seizing property, smoking big smoke, and playing with men.

However, she is a human being, and she does all this for revenge. For such a character, when fascist Japanese imperialism ravaged the land of China, the Communist Party and the Eighth Route Army took her as a figure to fight for. At first, Dark Phoenix did not have a good impression of the Eighth Route Army. When she was captured by the Japanese, she was humiliated, and the Japanese devils used her as a tool to vent their bestial desires. She was deeply moved by the Eighth Route Army's efforts to rescue her in every possible way at any cost, and she realized that the Kuomintang army was unreliable, and that only the Communist Party and the Eighth Route Army were her saviors, and only the Communist Party could save China. Since then, she has thrown herself into the arms of the Communist Party and has become an anti-Japanese force. She returned from the female bandit leader Black Phoenix to her original identity - Haiyan. Haiyan became a member of the Eighth Route Army, and Tang Sanliang, a soldier of the Eighth Route Army, fell in love with her deeply, which is the return of humanity and the resurrection of life.

"Green Mountains and Wind Bones" has made a new breakthrough in works that express the theme of the War of Resistance Against Japan. It is not just a positive representation of the great war, a manifestation of the power of the people. And from the opposite side, that is, from within the enemy, dig deeper. The war of aggression of Japanese imperialism not only caused grave disasters to the Chinese people, but also caused great harm to the Japanese people. The work devotes considerable space to the anti-war sentiment within the invaders. "Little devil" is one of the characters portrayed by the author. When the war broke out, this young Japanese man was forced to set foot on Chinese soil, and he witnessed the disasters brought by the war to the Chinese people, and also experienced the misfortune of his own family. When he was captured by the Eighth Route Army, he joined the ranks of the anti-war without hesitation. He cherished the preferential treatment given to him by the Eighth Route Army, and he knew how to repay his kindness and do what he could for the Chinese people to resist Japanese imperialism. "Little devils" use their identities and their own language to infiltrate the enemy's interior to divide and disintegrate the enemy, and sometimes disguise themselves as reporters to understand the enemy's intrigues and tricks and expose the ugly acts of the emperor and Japanese militarism in the so-called co-prosperity of East Asia.

"Little Devil" is an amiable and lovely artistic model, in which he embodies the commonality of human kindness and the personality of seeking self-worth. He had a considerable distance from traditional Chinese culture, however, under the influence of the Eighth Route Army, he gradually shortened this distance and finally merged together. He threaded the needle, secretly built a bridge for the love between Zhang Jufu and Doudou, and prompted a couple to embark on the road of love, which all showed his cuteness.

It is worth mentioning that the work successfully portrays the artistic model of Osaguro Island in Japan. Unlike the "little devil", Kuroshima is a general of the Japanese army, he is loyal to the emperor and has a bushido spirit in him. However, Kuroshima is a tragic figure, his thoughts are extremely contradictory, and his complex thoughts and feelings make him confused, confused, and painful. His son, Jiechuan, resolutely set foot on Chinese territory in order to realize the emperor's ambition to invade the world, but died on the battlefield and became a victim of fascist imperialism. Kuroshima's daughter, Baihui, a beautiful young girl who went to the Chinese battlefield with good wishes, ended up becoming a prostitute with the Japanese army, and was raped and insulted by her own soldiers countless times. Three members of Kuroshima's Japanese military family were victimized by the war.

Kuroshima was repeatedly defeated on the battlefields of China and was rebuked by the emperor. His loved ones were bullied, and the country and family were in danger of being destroyed. He survived in this kind of crack, lingering, suffering, repenting, and mentally tortured and tormented, and only surrender was his only way out. This internal division and disintegration of Japanese imperialism was the inevitable result of its rapid defeat and demise.

In short, "Green Mountains and Bones" is a good work that promotes patriotism and praises the people's war. As the 60th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is approaching, it will inevitably bring a strong shock wave to the literary world.
