According to the release of the Ishikawa Prefecture Fire Department in Japan, on the afternoon of the 10th, a report was received that there was a new oil leak on the coast of the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant in Ishikawa Prefecture, which is operated by Hokuriku Electric Power Company, and the relevant departments are confirming and verifying. On January 7, the plant confirmed that there was a small amount of oil floating in the sea near the plant.

According to the website of the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK), Japan's Hokuriku Electric Power Company said on the evening of the 10th that a 23,000-liter oil leak was confirmed near the discharge port of the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant in Ishikawa Prefecture, but it did not contain radioactive materials.

According to Hokuriku Electric Power Company, the cause of the oil film on the sea surface may be due to the damage to the transformer pipes of the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant when the earthquake occurred on the 1st, and the oil used for insulation and cooling leaked, and the fire extinguishing equipment was activated, causing the oil to fly away and leak with the rainwater.

On January 11, local time, regarding the oil leak found on the coast of the Shiga nuclear power plant of Japan's Hokuriku Electric Power Company on the 10th, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said that there was no impact of nuclear radiation.

Currently, the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant is in a state of decommissioning. Hayashi said that there are no problems that may affect the safe operation of nuclear power plants, and that there is no change in the policy of restarting nuclear power plants with the understanding of local people.

Previously, on the afternoon of January 1, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Noto area of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. In the aftermath of the earthquake, the safety situation at the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant in Shiga Town, Ishikawa Prefecture has attracted great concern.

Hokuriku Electric Power Company said at a press conference on January 2 that due to the impact of the earthquake, the pipelines of the two transformers used to receive power from outside at the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 and Unit 2 were damaged, causing the leakage of liquid used for insulation and cooling, with leaks of 3,600 liters and 3,500 liters, respectively.

According to Hokuriku Electric Power, the leak did not cause an impact on the external environment, but the system using the transformers still cannot receive external power supply.

In addition, water in the spent fuel pool of the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant overflowed into the surrounding area due to the shaking of the earthquake, but the monitoring stations measuring the radiation intensity around the nuclear power plant showed the same level as normal, and the radioactive material did not affect the outside.

On January 5, Hokuriku Electric Power said it had conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Shiga nuclear power plant that day and that so far the plant has not suffered any damage that could cause significant safety issues.

On the same day, Hokuriku Electric Power Company made corrections to the oil leakage of the transformer of Unit 2. According to the company, after investigation, the amount of oil leaking from the transformer of Unit 2 was about 19,800 liters. At a press conference on January 2, the company estimated the leakage from the transformer in Unit 2 at 3,500 litres, with the new revision more than five times that value.

On January 7, Hokuriku Electric Power Company said that during a detailed inspection of the Shiga nuclear power plant, it was confirmed that a small amount of oil film was floating in the sea near the nuclear power plant. In addition, oil films were found in ditches and roads around the transformer of the nuclear power plant's Unit 2 transformer.

"This may be due to damage to the transformer pipes at the Shiga Nuclear Power Plant when the earthquake struck on the 1st of this month, causing oil leakage for insulation and cooling, and the activation of fire extinguishing equipment, which in turn caused oil to splash and leak with rainwater to the surrounding area," Hokuriku Electric Power said.

Hokuriku Power also claimed that the oil leaked was not part of the radiation management area and would not cause radiation effects to the outside world. At present, the oil film has been treated with neutralizers and other products.
