In 1943, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression entered its sixth year. In light of the development of the situation in the struggle against the enemy, and in order to more effectively win over a large number of puppet troops and greatly isolate the Japanese army, the Binhai Military Region, in accordance with the instructions of Commander Luo Ronghuan of the Shandong Military Region, decided to transfer cadres to organize a number of "large puppet army work groups" to specialize in the work of winning over a large number of puppet troops.

At that time, I was the head of the enemy work unit of the 686th Regiment of the 15th Division and the head of the enemy work department of the Ganyu County Party Committee. At that time, the 71st Brigade of the puppet "Peaceful Founding Army" was stationed in the Ganyu area. The brigade commander Li Yafan was originally the adjutant of Miao Zhengliu, commander of the 57th Army of the Kuomintang. There are three regiments under its jurisdiction, Huang Shengchun, the head of the first regiment, Yang Buren, the head of the second regiment (that is, the traitor Wang Fengming), and Zhang Xingsan, the commander of the third regiment, with a total of more than 1,600 people.

For a period of time, the party, government, military, and people in the Ganyu region have continuously launched a political offensive against the department, and have achieved certain results. After the establishment of the large-scale puppet army working group, it further carried out its work actively, sending party members and cadres Li Dexin and Xu Zongxin to penetrate into the puppet army and carry out underground secret activities. On the basis of the preliminary work, we established a relationship with Huang Shengchun, the head of the first regiment. I once met with him, told him about the situation in which the Japanese army was bound to be defeated and our army was bound to win, and I pointed out the way out with great righteousness. He said: "I am in Cao Ying, my heart is in Han", and he is willing to serve the Eighth Route Army. Another relationship was Liu Liancheng, the former adjutant of the 1st Regiment, who had been captured and released after being thoroughly educated by our army, who often transmitted information to our army and established some necessary peripheral relations, so that he could often enter and leave the city gates.

In order to make full preparations to destroy this group of enemies and finally liberate Ganyu City, Commander Chen Shiqu and Political Commissar Fu Zhuting of the Binhai Naval Region successively asked me to report to them on many occasions to discuss the situation, study the progress of the work of internal line relations, and formulate various plans for how to coordinate internal line relations with our army's operations. Work together to resolutely liberate Ganyu City.

Ganyu has been ravaged by the Japanese for more than six years, and in order to ensure the colonial rule of the Haizhou region, the devils are desperately trying to turn Ganyu County into a strong support point. There are towering walls, deep moats, bunkers, turrets and layers of barbed wire. Most of the troops of the 71st Brigade of the puppet "Peaceful Founding Army" are stationed here. The puppet brigade commander Li Yafan, who implemented the Kuomintang's policy of "saving the country by curves", led his men and horses to surrender to the Japanese invaders two years ago, sold himself to seek glory, became a puppet brigade commander, and became the right-hand man of the Japanese invaders attacking our anti-Japanese base areas.

In the middle of the night of November 19, 1943, our 686th Regiment, 23rd Regiment and some local armed forces quietly arrived outside Ganyu City. The combat hero He Wanxiang led the assault team to hide outside the northeast gate, waiting to blow open the city gate and seize the city tower.

The task of blowing up the city gate was carried out by Liu Guorong, the leader of the reconnaissance squad, Hao Fengshuang, Ren Faming, and others, who led our internal relations, and Liu Liancheng, the captain and adjutant of the puppet army.

In order to paralyze the enemy, we consciously did not attack Ganyu City for a long time. The enemy thought that this fortress was "impregnable", and spent all day drinking and gambling, unaware of the unobtrusive entry of our enemy workers.

In order to cooperate with this military operation, we originally wanted to win over Huang Shengchun, the commander of the 1st Regiment of the 71st Brigade of the enemy, anyway, but the higher authorities considered that Huang's education was not sufficient and that the conditions were not ripe anyway, so they decided on another plan: Liu Liancheng asked Liu Liancheng to pretend to be an "order" of the 1st Regiment to go out of the city at 8 o'clock on 18 November 1943 to grab food in the border area, lure the battalion into the ambush circle of our army, and force the enemy to surrender their weapons en masse. Then let Liu Liancheng lead the first battalion of our 686th Regiment and pretend to be the enemy to capture the city. This plan is very ingenious, but to realize this plan, it needs to be implemented seamlessly, and if there is an abnormality, it must be dealt with decisively.

On the morning of November 17, 1943, when Li Dexin, an enemy engineering officer, went to Zhangcun in the west of the city to make a final decision with Liu Liancheng, he happened to encounter the search force of the puppet army Zhang Xing's 3rd Regiment stationed in Daguanzhuang, and was unfortunately arrested immediately. Liu Liancheng hurriedly ran to us to report the news, and he regretted it: "It's over, after such a long time of preparation, there was such a big leak before the battle, how can I be worthy of the trust of the Eighth Route Army in me?"

I hurriedly reported to Commander Chen Shiqu, head of the Military Region, and Political Commissar Fu Zhuting about the sudden incident of Li Dexin's arrest. The head of the military region attaches great importance to this matter, and his analysis holds that according to his performance in peacetime, Li Dexin is a good party member, and he can be completely confident that he will not expose his secrets to the enemy. Judging from the pattern of the activities of Zhang Xingsan's troops stationed in Daguanzhuang, the arrest of Li Dexin this time does not seem to be premeditated. In addition, if the puppet army wanted to transfer Li to the city, it would have to go through several procedures, which would take a day or two. Based on these analyses, the chief asked us to quickly send men into the city to find out the details of the enemy so that the camera could act. After finding out, the enemy was really unaware of our siege plan, and only heard that Regiment Commander Zhang had caught a "salt dealer" outside the city. Therefore, the chief instructed us: Under the influence of our army's victory, and in addition to the fact that our army's policy of capturing prisoners is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, if our enemy army can make new preparations for cooperation as soon as possible, and take advantage of the enemy's unpreparedness, success is still possible.

On the morning of November 19, 1943, Xiao Fengshan, deputy head of the regimental enemy labor unit, talked to Liu Liancheng and encouraged him to remain calm. He immediately perked up and came up with an idea: "When I go to the Northeast Gate tonight, it happens that Commander Huang's spy company is on duty, and I am very familiar with them, and I have a way to open the city gate." The leaders understood Liu Liancheng's eagerness to make meritorious service and atone for his crimes, and immediately approved the plan. In the evening, the troops shouted the slogan of "enter Ganyu City and capture Li Yafan alive" and marched towards Chengguan.

Several of our enemy cadres have been following the political commissar Fu Zhuting, and followed the commando team led by He Wanxiang to the nearest area to the northeast gate and hidden. The dawn of the night was quiet, and the sound of the puppet army humming a small tune in the city tower could be faintly heard.

Although the commando Ren Ming was a little anxious, he still calmly watched the movement on the city tower. At this time, Adjutant Liu said to the sentry in an angry tone: "Why are you so verbose! With so much provisions, the cart can't be pushed in the dark, and if you don't find someone to carry it, you drink the northwest wind!" The door opened a crack, and the sentry who opened the door came out sideways and said: "Adjutant Liu, come in quickly, it's really cold tonight! And the fellow countryman, which village?" This question made Hao Fengshuang and Ren Ming embarrassed. They are all from Shanxi, and as soon as they open their mouths, they will show their feet, so they have to agree with "um, oh". Liu Liancheng didn't allow the sentry to speak again, and immediately said, "It's troublesome." At this time, Liu Guorong and Sun Shihong, who were lying in front of the wooden gate, suddenly stood up and rushed into the city gate. Xu Zongxin went down to the city and led the assault team led by He Wanxiang to rush towards the first regiment and three battalions of the puppet army.

After the assault team and part of the large army entered the city, Political Commissar Fu led us to the city tower again. The red flag of victory fluttered high above the head of Ganyu City, and the wires were pulled up the city tower. Commander Chen Shiqu also arrived quickly, and under a few tall red candles, the map of Ganyu City unfolded. The news of victory was frequently spread on the phone: the headquarters of the third battalion and the eighth company of the puppet were all captured, and the puppet police station was completely annihilated by me...... He took 300 prisoners, but he didn't come into contact with the enemy. By the time the enemy had woken up and prepared to organize resistance, Commissar Fu Zhuting had drawn a small blue circle in the western corner of the map.

It was getting dark, and the stubborn enemy was still entrenched in the brigade headquarters for the last dying throes. Political Commissar Fu Zhuting gave an order: "Bring the artillery and destroy the enemy's central turret!" Within a few minutes, the sharpshooter Li Yuzhang and the others dragged the steel cannon that had been handed over from the devil. Li Yuzhang sat on the cannon body obliquely, and after aiming at the moment, he only waited for the order of his superiors.

"Wait a minute!" Political Commissar Fu seemed to suddenly remember something, turned around and wrote a note, and then instructed us to send someone to the enemy brigade commander Li Yafan. If you abandon the path of recognizing the thief as your father and surrender immediately, you will be fortunate for the country and the people; if you resist stubbornly, you will die. We mobilized a captive to deliver the letter. After a while, Political Commissar Fu wrote a second one: "Our army has always treated the officers and soldiers who come to surrender leniently, and without further ado, the time limit is 10 minutes to reply, otherwise it will be bombarded with artillery fire."
