After arriving at the Amundsen Sea operation station, the expedition team members first carried out a fish survey to see the report sent back by the reporter from the "Snow Dragon 2".
After the "Snow Dragon 2" arrived at the operation station, the expedition team members began the mid-level fish trawling operation. After the net was removed, everyone temporarily returned to the cabin to take shelter from the cold wind.

Wang Rui, member of the 40th Chinese Antarctic Expedition: There are several main types of fish that we first came up with, including the Antarctic electric light fish, which is a very representative pelagic fish, and the Antarctic deep-sea salmon, which is also one of the more representative pelagic fishes, and the rest of the smaller ones, which are small-toothed round-capped fishes, all of which will make a good paving for the study of pelagic fish.
Mesopelagic fish are fish that live in depths between 200 and 1,000 meters. The average depth of the Southern Ocean is 4,000 meters, so one might ask why we should pay attention to pelagic fish at a depth of 1,000 meters.
Liu Yang, a member of China's 40th Antarctic Expedition, a professor at Ocean University of China: Because the fish at this level have the role of connecting the upper and lower levels, they eat krill on it, and are also eaten by seals, penguins, and seabirds in the ecological chain, so they are not only predators, but also bait, which is a very important part, so we think that pelagic fish and krill play the same value.
At present, researchers are conducting further research on electric light fish to determine whether electric light fish can be used as a substitute for krill to be preyed on by seals and whales once Antarctic krill resources decline. Chen Chao, captain of the "Snow Dragon 2" ocean team, said that the Amundsen Sea is the most significant warming area around Antarctica, and it is also one of the most significant areas for the retreat of the Antarctic ice shelf.
