Since ancient times, Quanzhou has the name of "Wenling", and because it has a unique marine trade civilization relics, it has been successfully selected into the "World Heritage List", and since then there has been "Song and Yuan Dynasty China to see Quanzhou".

Quanzhou is geologically divided into a sedimentary plain, which is a mulberry field growing from the sea. According to the rate of upward movement of the earth's crust, the first mountain range in Quanzhou city rose from the sea more than 5,000 years ago. By the time of the Tang Dynasty, the city of Quanzhou had an elegant nickname "Wenling". Warm, the ground is warm and moist, and the mountains, mountains and hills.

The city of Quanzhou is backed by mountains and ascites, facing a wide Jinjiang River that goes straight to the open sea. The water system in the city is criss-crossed: one is limited to horses, two are transported, and three are cathartic. The Ming Dynasty began to call this set of water systems "Bagua Ditch". The sub-city and Luo city walls protect each other layer by layer, and the large and small gossip ditches surround them.

There is a map in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the Quanzhou city in the picture is surrounded by the Bagua ditch water hoop densely, there is no trace of gaps, the canals in the city are all over, the waterway is very wide, you can lead to the Kaiyuan Temple and the important government office at that time. The ditch in the picture is drawn with a wave pattern, and the waves are like scales overlapping and advancing, which is quite imposing. The underground water source of the ancient city comes from two rivers and tides, and the dark tide often surges. The veins of water have their own vitality.

People attach great importance to this set of water systems, and constantly broaden the boundaries of the water system, from the sub-city water system in the literature, to Luocheng Haogou, and then to the Yicheng water transportation channel. The importance of water to the city is "like a person's body, and the blood flows". The emotions that people place on the ancient city exist parallel to the Bagua ditch.

Nowadays, the big Bagua ditch, which runs straight parallel to Tumen Street to Xinmen Street, is where the Luo city wall was located in the past, and it is also the most complete and longest old water system, about 2.3 kilometers long, and the flat water flows slowly. There is a small gossip ditch on the left and right wings, which winds and turns. The left wing has joined together a once thriving commercial territory, where the ruins of the city are located. The right wing passes through the backtown life of the market and leads to the cultural center, with the Quanzhou Confucian Temple and the Xue Palace nearby.

The city and the water, the water and the people, form an ancient water network, telling many stories.

In the past, people opened rivers to transport goods, connecting entire cities. The same waterway welcomes large ships going to sea when it is wide, and small boats to transfer materials when it is narrow. It is still the stone weir of the past, protecting the same water. People always love to be around the water. Carrying water there, listening to drama there, falling in love there. Catch the tide, raft to the river for a night tour, and the string songs continue. The city is changing little by little, and some of the stories on the water have become confusing, and the speeches are a little thrilling, and the people are so brave.

After the rain, many fish appeared in the small ditch in the alley, and the direction of the water flow was sometimes to the east, sometimes to the west. Some plots will also "draft", pour how much to eat, can not store water, and finally the garden owner has to melt tin and pour the ground, the silver light is shining, people call "tin pond lotus pond". There are still hundreds of ancient wells in the ancient city, freely distributed in the alleys or in the ancient houses, and there are various shapes. This is the water that is introduced into the house through the opening of wells and gardening, etc., accompanying the flowers to bloom and fall, and the garden to the end.
