Guangming Middle School is surrounded by excellent historical buildings such as the Great World, Shanghai Concert Hall, YMCA Hotel, and Workers' Cultural Palace, and its main teaching building is also an excellent historical protection building in Shanghai. In recent years, the Huangpu District Government has continued to promote the protection and repair of outstanding historical buildings, and increased the lighting upgrade of the surrounding landscape of People's Square. However, this beauty of the early lights does not include Guangming Middle School.
Zhang Wuyue, a senior high school (8) class, told reporters that whenever school is over, this century-old building, which lacks night lights, always disappears into the night and is dim. This not only makes the tourists who enjoy the night view visually incoherent, but also greatly affects the inconsistency of the landscape lighting around the People's Square. Therefore, under the guidance of Mr. Zhao Chengbin, the "Light up the Light" project team composed of students from the first (8th) class of Guangming Middle School put forward a proposal that the teaching building of Guangming Middle School should be included in the scope of the landscape lighting upgrading project around the People's Square, and reported their research results to the CPPCC members at the meeting.
From October 26, 2023 to January 2024, the students of the project team not only conducted a detailed survey of the night lighting of the buildings in the People's Square area, but also inspected the lighting of several other schools with old buildings in Shanghai. The students in the art group even hand-drew a night view tourism map of Huangpu and designed a night light rendering of Guangming Middle School. After months of research, data collection, map drawing, and collective efforts, the students finally wrote this "Proposal on Incorporating the Teaching Building of Guangming Middle School, an Excellent Historic Protected Building in Shanghai, into the Scope of the Landscape Lighting Upgrading Project Around People's Square", hoping to contribute to the layout and planning of Shanghai's urban night lighting.
After listening to the suggestions of the students, the committee members said in the exchange, "Your proposal is bold and innovative, has great practical value and significance, embodies the sincere desire of the Guangming students to assume social responsibility and actively exercise the political right of the people to be the masters of the country, and coincides with the concept of 'people's city and people's construction'." Not only that, the committee members also put forward their own suggestions for the follow-up improvement of this proposal, and expressed their willingness to make their own contributions to the final implementation of the proposal.
