Myanmar media reported that the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Commission (KNU/KNLA-PC) issued a notice saying that from January 1, 2024, large vehicles such as 10-wheeled trucks, 12-wheeled trucks and trailer trucks will no longer be allowed on the Torangok-Kugak section in Kayin State.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Karen Armed Unity Committee and issued with the signature of the Deputy Commander of the KNU/KNLA-PC, Nogobotu. The notice pointed out that due to the weak load-bearing capacity of the roads and bridges in this section, in order to avoid causing danger to the passers-by, it was decided to prohibit the passage of large vehicles.

This section of the road is located in the KNU/KNLA-PC control area and is an alternative route after the Myawaddy-Giang Asia Highway becomes impassable. At present, except for large vehicles that are prohibited from passing, other vehicles can still pass normally. In addition, since January 1, the toll fee for this section of the road has also been increased.
