According to residents of the town of Meymiao Tsung, they have to pay up to 70,000-100,000 kyats to legally obtain an ID card. It is understood that this fee is slightly higher than the local government's previous claim, and due to the difficulty of preparing materials and the complexity of the procedure, it sometimes faces problems such as processing delays.
In addition, one resident mentioned that it used to cost only 4,500 kyats, but now the price has skyrocketed to between 70,000 and 190,000. Faced with this situation, many families have to be prepared to pay huge fees to solve the problem.
As to why this is happening, one resident explained: "You know that the Myanmar government has given clear instructions that all people over the age of 16 must have an ID card. Failure to do so on time will result in penalties. In this resident's opinion, they have to accept the high price or they may be delayed.
The town is not alone, and the situation is spreading across Myanmar. Many netizens expressed doubts and dissatisfaction with this situation. Many people believe that these fees are actually duplicated and lack transparency and reasonableness.
In this regard, some overseas Chinese in the town of Mei Miao Zun expressed surprise and sympathy, believing that if the minimum amount of 100,000 kyats is calculated and the required documents are obtained, they will be able to easily obtain an ID card. Therefore, for applicants who are unable to produce sufficient supporting documents or have incomplete documents, they will not be able to obtain an ID card, even if the fee has increased to millions of kyats.
In response to this matter, the government and residents should strengthen interaction and communication. At the same time, the government also needs to continuously improve relevant services to alleviate the difficulties encountered by the public in handling procedures, so that everyone's rights and interests in applying for certificates are fully protected.
