Infant Emperor: Liu Bing, the Emperor of Han Chong, who died at the hands of his mother

Emperor Liu Bing of the Han Dynasty, also spelled Ming, was born on February 15, 143, the second year of emperor Shun's reign. He was the son of Liu Bao, the Emperor of Han Shun, and his mother was Yu Guiren, who was the eighth emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty.

At that time, Emperor Shun of Han's empress Dowager Liang had no sons, so on April 15 of the first year of Jiankang (144 AD), Liu Bing was made crown prince. On August 6, Emperor Shun of Han died, and the two-year-old crown prince Liu Bing was made emperor, and Liang Fei was made empress dowager. Due to the young age of Emperor Chong of Han, empress dowager Liang Fei came to the regency of the dynasty.

On August 13, he appointed Tai wei Zhao Jun as TaiFu and Grand Si Nong Li Gu as Tai Wei and shang shu affairs in charge. On September 12, Emperor Shun of Han was buried in Xianling, with the title of Emperor Xiaoshun and the temple title of Emperor Jingzong.

After Emperor Han Chong succeeded to the throne, his cousin Liang Shi controlled the imperial government, and Liang Fei's brother Liang Ji (梁冀) was flying and stumbling, the imperial court was corrupt, and the people were not happy. At that time, there were also riots in Jiujiang County.

Soon after Emperor Han Chong succeeded to the throne, he fell ill. Liang Ji summoned Liu Yi, the grandson of Emperor Zhang of Han and son of Liu Hong the Prince of Bohai, to the capital of Luoyang, and prepared to make him emperor after Emperor Chong of Han died. On the sixth day of the first lunar month in the first year of Yongjia (145 AD), the Han Chong Emperor, who was less than three years old, died in the front hall of the Yutang.

Empress Dowager Liang and Liang Ji made Liu Wei emperor and emperor of the Han Dynasty. In this way, he once again came to the regency of the dynasty as the empress dowager. On the 21st day of the first month, emperor Chong of Han was buried in Huailing, with the title of Emperor Xiaochong.

Liu Bing, who took the throne at the age of two and died less than three years old, only spent three years in the world can be described as bad luck. His reign was short, his life was short, and he did not have any ruling achievements, so he left in a hurry, so that when the historians wrote a biography for the Han Chong Emperor, they had to choose the anecdotes of the world during his reign to fill the numbers, such as the Book of Later Han and the Later Han Chronicle. Because the historical records are vague, the cause of death of Emperor Chong of Han has attracted people's attention, and there are three theories about the cause of Death of Emperor Chong: the first, normal, only said that it was a normal death, but could not say why; the second, the disease said, thought that he died of illness, as for what disease, just shook his head, speechless; the third, poisoning, thought that Liang Ji sent his men to poison and kill to death.

The history books only say that the Han Chong Emperor died, and nothing else is involved. In this regard, some people believe that the Han Chong Emperor belongs to normal birth, old age, illness and death, that is to say, the death of the Han Chong Emperor is not the result of human interference, but its body and physiology are determined, and no human being can do it.

Look at unnatural deaths. When Emperor Chong of Han, Liang Ji was the brother of empress dowager Liang, and his appearance was indeed not good, and he usually bullied men and women, and evil was full of profits, because, congenitally bad, coupled with the ugliness of the day after tomorrow, the Book of Later Han would have a record of "being a man with a shoulder jackal and a hole in his eyes".

Although Liang Ji did things recklessly, he had been walking in the rivers and lakes for many years, and he also knew the weight in his heart. If it were not for the later Emperor Han who said to him in front of everyone: "This General of the Han Dynasty" (see the Book of Later Han), Liang Ji would not have jumped the wall in a hurry, and sent his cronies to poison the cake of the Han Emperor Liu Wei.

At this time, the Eastern Han Dynasty was already in decline, the state apparatus was resting and stopping, first the Han Emperor died prematurely, and then the former Young Emperor Liu Yi died early, the foreign eunuchs disrupted the rule, the people had a lot of grievances, and the country was not as good as before. The Liang family was just out of their own interests, and they would not once again take action against emperor Han Chong, who did not pose any threat. Moreover, Liu Bing was still a baby learning language at this time, and his life and health were unknown. Liang brothers and sisters, if Liu Bing's finger is really moved at this time, the sky and the ground may collapse.

At this time, the Liang brothers and sisters were still in the stage of loving each other and the family, and there were still some things that were gathered together to discuss, otherwise there would not be such a record as "the empress dowager came to the dynasty, and Zhao Ji and Taifu Zhao Jun and Taiwei Li Gu participated in the recording of Shang Shushi" (see Book of Later Han). Unlike later, a rift arose between the two, "The empress dowager was frequently worried, and the size of the government was entrusted to Tsukasa, and she was determined to be conscientious and well-righteous." The number is contrary to Liang Ji, and the result is Shuzhi" (see Later Han Dynasty). Therefore, during the han chong emperor period, Liang Ji would not carry his sister behind his back and silently poison Liu Bing.

Liang Ji was a powerful minister during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and if he had really done such an unfaithful thing as sending people to poison and kill Emperor Chong of Han, it would have been clearly recorded in the history books. Just like later, when he sent someone to poison emperor Han, wasn't it recorded by shi guan in a realistic manner? From this, it can be seen that Liang Ji did not poison emperor Chong of Han.

So, which of Liu Bing's deaths was a normal death?

The author believes that the Han Chong Emperor was born weak as the basis for early death, but his mother's failure to do her best was the real reason for Liu Bing's toddler's death. For babies, breastfeeding from the biological mother is the best way to get nourishment. Emperor Chong's biological mother was Yu Guiren. In the second year of Emperor Shun's reign (143 CE), Yu Gui gave birth to Liu Bing, and the following year, Liu Bing, who was waiting to be fed, left his mother, the emperor's throne. Not long after the little emperor was born, he left his own mother, without the milk of his birth mother, and was forcibly stuffed into the arms of a strange woman, and his health status could be imagined.

In the middle and late Period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, why did so many young princes die early? According to research, to a large extent, the nursing mothers do not care for the little prince, so that the little prince in the imperial family dies early. Historically, the emperor's grandmother has left a few names in the history books, and the more famous ones are about a dozen, compared to the number of ancient emperors in Our country, it is really not worth mentioning. It can be seen that the emperor's nurses are mostly passers-by, mostly for the lord of money.

Which was Emperor HanChong's wet nurse? We don't know, but we know that this wet nurse is irresponsible to Liu Bing, messing around all day. For a long time, the han chong emperor in his infancy could not keep up with the nutrition, his body was stunted, and he was already weak, and he could not carry it for long. Therefore, the sudden death of Liu Bing, who was less than three years old, can be understood.
