The grandson of the founding major general sold fruit in the town, but few people knew his identity until 2015.
In 2003, in a small town in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province, a middle-aged man with dark skin began to set up a stall selling fruit for a living.
Except for a few township cadres who knew his identity, no one knew that this unpretentious fruit stall owner turned out to be the grandson of the founding major general Zhong Wei.

On April 24, 1984, the founding major general Zhong Wei died of illness at the age of 73.

And the things he left to his children and grandchildren were only a large wooden box, a pair of velvet pants, and a vest. The box was also the Japanese trophies he captured on the battlefield of resistance against Japan.
If there was anyone he had a job for during his lifetime, it was only his guards and the nanny who cooked at home. These two have been with Zhong Wei for a long time, working hard and living a hard life. So he deliberately asked relatives and friends to take care of one or two in his will.
Although Zhong Wei did not leave anything of value to his children and grandchildren, his descendants were very grateful to him, and they never caused trouble to the government and did not disgrace Zhong Wei.

Later, Zhong Shuixia was admitted to the local normal school with her own efforts, Zhong Wei was very happy, and praised her for winning a big battle.
His eldest daughter-in-law, Li Qiongying, was 84 years old when she was interviewed by reporters, but in addition to the government's subsidies for the elderly, she usually grows vegetables to sell when she is in good health. Although life is hard, he has never sought help from the government.

In 1955, Zhong Wei was awarded the rank of major general, which was fully affirmed by the Military Commission.
During his career as a horseman, he joined the army at the age of 15 and fought with Peng Dehuai and Xu Haidong successively, serving as a company instructor and regimental political commissar.
His famous battle was during the Liberation War, when he fought the 88th Division of the Kuomintang 71st Army in Jilin. It is said that this battle defeated the enemy to the point of losing his fighting spirit, and he himself enjoyed the fight.
From January to March 1947, the Northeast Coalition Army launched the famous "Three Visits to the South of the Yangtze River" campaign, crossing the Songhua River three times to fight the Kuomintang.
On 8 March, Zhong Wei, then commander of the 5th Division of the 2nd Column of the Northeast Field Army, was ordered to lead his troops to cooperate with the fraternal troops in the area of Gushantun to prepare to encircle and annihilate the 1st Division of the New First Army of the Kuomintang.
The next day, he led the 5th Division to the southwest side of Gushantun, and through reconnaissance, he discovered that two enemy battalions had come to two small villages nearby.
In the previous campaign, his main task was to cooperate with the brother troops to fight, and he had not attacked the enemy head-on, but this time he stumbled upon the enemy, or two battalions, Zhong Wei felt very excited.
After analysis, he believed that the enemy was in motion and could surprise them while they were unprepared. But our army is highly disciplined, and we cannot go to war with the enemy without permission.
However, Zhong Wei felt that he couldn't delay the fighters, and if he let go of this group of enemies, it would not affect the overall situation.
He finally persuaded the political commissar and, with an order, led the 5th Division to surround the 1,337 officers and soldiers of the 264th Regiment of the 88th Division of the enemy.
Under his command, the 5th Division fought very bravely, and after sensing that the enemy had sent reinforcements, he even commanded his superiors in turn and asked them to send other troops to support him.
In the end, he also lived up to expectations, annihilated an entire regiment of the 88th Division, dragged the enemy's reinforcements, and allowed the friendly forces to completely annihilate the Kuomintang 87th Division in Guojiatun and won three victories in the south of the Yangtze River.
It is not difficult to see that Zhong Wei has extraordinary courage and excellent command ability, and has made great achievements.
In addition, he has a lot of ghost ideas. It is said that during the capture of Wenjiatai, in order to keep the hidden Kuomintang officers active, he actually asked the prisoners to gather and run, and whoever fell behind was arrested and interrogated.
