As the political, cultural and economic center of the ancient Shu Kingdom, the large number of ancient Shu secret treasures unearthed from the Sanxingdui site shocked the world and was hailed as one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of mankind in the 20th century.
On December 20th, sponsored by China Culture International Travel Service Co., Ltd. and Beijing Zhongchuang Cultural Tourism Cultural Industry Group, and undertaken by Encounter Museum, "Meet Ancient Shu: Sanxingdui Immersive Light and Shadow Art Exhibition" was launched in Hall 798 of Encounter Museum. The exhibition is divided into four units: "Searching for Ancient Shu", "Respecting the Gods", "Dreaming Back to Ancient Shu" (Light and Shadow Show), and "The Kingdom of God".

Nandu reporter learned that "Meet Gu Shu: Sanxingdui Immersive Light and Shadow Art Exhibition" is divided into two parts: static exhibition and light and shadow show in terms of display form. The static exhibition shows the archaeological discoveries, production and life, sacrificial culture, and belief system of Sanxingdui through the refinement of ancient Shu elements, large-scale scene simulation restoration, cultural relics imitation exhibition, and digital multimedia interaction.

Imitations of Sanxingdui cultural relics such as bronze sacred trees, Dali statues, Sanxingdui masks, longitudinal masks, and human heads make the audience feel the inspiration for the creation of the light and shadow exhibition in an all-round way.

The light and shadow unit "Dream Back to Ancient Shu" takes "Shu Soul, Shu Present, Shu Traces, Shu Sacrifice" as the narrative context, and reflects the content of the static exhibition space. Sanxingdui's masks, sacred trees, sacred birds, utensils and other classic images have been refined and recreated by elements, combined with grand music and magnificent visual effects to cleanse the audience's visual and auditory sense.

The exhibition also sets up a somatosensory interactive link, where the audience can generate their own mirror image of the ancient Shu body after fixed-point recognition, and as the body swings, the corresponding ancient Shu people also dance, as if modern people and ancient Shu people communicate across time and space.

Liu Yuzhu, chairman of the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation, commented, "Meet the Ancient Shu: Sanxingdui Immersive Light and Shadow Art Exhibition", which integrates technology and reality into an immersive experience, leading everyone to dream back to the millennium and immerse themselves in the vast and magnificent ancient Shu Avenue. At the same time, Liu Yuzhu also encouraged cultural and museum institutions and collection units to further explore cooperation with market-oriented and creative institutions, expand the ways of activating and utilizing cultural relics, give full play to the professionalism of their own research results, and stimulate creativity inside and outside the system, and believes that this is an important consideration for the sustainable and high-quality development of museums in the new era.

Zhou Yu, deputy director of the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, commented that the "Meet the Ancient Shu" exhibition uses digital technology and scientific and technological means to vividly show the ancient Shu culture and artistic treasures to the audience, so that the cultural relics come alive and realize the value of cultural relics and relics.

Li Zhongmou, executive director of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Museum and former deputy director of the Shanghai Museum, believes that the exhibition of ancient Shu is to combine the context, origin, excavation process and imitation of some key cultural relics with the art of light and shadow.

It is reported that the exhibition "Meet Gu Shu" will open its first stop in Shanghai in August 2023, and has received enthusiastic attention from the audience, especially among young people. The exhibition has toured in Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing and other places. In September 2023, the light and shadow content in "Meet Gu Shu" also appeared at the opening ceremony of the first Golden Panda Award Ceremony.
The exhibition will run until April 7, 2024.
