Born in 1943, Venables came through the Chelsea Academy and spent his time as a player with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Crystal Palace before retiring as a coach and transitioning as a coach. He managed Barcelona from 1984 to 1987 and won a La Liga trophy in 1984-85, as well as the League Cup in 1986 and a Copa del Rey final.

Venables is also one of the few coaches to have won the first five league games in his first season in charge of Barcelona. After learning of the sad news of Venerous's death, Barcelona FC also issued an official message of condolences, which read: "FC Barcelona expresses its deep condolences on the death of Terry Vínables, who was the head coach of Barcelona from 1984 to 1987. In 1987, Vinables returned to Tottenham Hotspur, the club he played for as a player, as manager. During his time in charge of Tottenham, he led them to an FA Cup title. After stepping down from Tottenham, Venables became England manager in 1994 and reached the semi-finals of Euro 1996. In addition, he has coached teams such as Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and the Australian national team. It is worth mentioning that during his brief tenure at Crystal Palace from 1998 to 1999, Venables was the head coach of the then Chinese overseas players Fan Zhiyi and Sun Jihai. After the 2006 World Cup, Venables briefly returned to the England national team as an assistant coach.
