In this paper, we have used response surface tests to determine how the austenite grain size can be displayed in real production by optimizing the etching method. The test material is GCr15 steel, and the test results show that the best etching method is to etch with 25 drops of dish soap and 56°C hydrochloric acid alcohol solution within 5 minutes, and a clear grain size display effect can be obtained. The etching conditions of the specimen under different heat treatment conditions are also different, but it is important to pay attention to the etching at higher temperatures.
