Recently, the conflict in the Sudan has escalated again, bringing serious destruction and humanitarian disasters to the country. Over the weekend of 16-17 September, a new round of heavy clashes broke out between SAF and the Rapid Support Force in and around the capital, Khartoum, in what witnesses described as the most intense since the clashes began.

The main focus of the conflict was on the General Command of the Armed Forces in the north of Khartoum city, as well as the signal base in Khartoum city, the armoured headquarters base in the south and the engineering base in the city of Omdurman. The two days of fighting caused severe damage to many important buildings and facilities, and even a fire broke out in the Great Nile Oil Operations Company building, a landmark in Khartoum City, and black smoke rose into the sky.

Both sides blamed the conflict, with the Rapid Support Force claiming that SAF had carried out air strikes and bombing, while SAF accused the other of indiscriminate bombing of residential areas and even setting fire to buildings.

This conflict, which has continued since its outbreak on 15 April this year, has placed a heavy burden on Sudanese society and people. At this difficult juncture, we call on all parties to cease hostilities as soon as possible and to find a way out for a peaceful settlement of the dispute. It is only through dialogue and compromise that the Sudan can achieve peace, stability and prosperity.

Finally, let us pay high tribute to all those who have worked hard in the conflict. We look forward to seeing the Sudan move towards peace and to better days ahead.
