On the afternoon of October 2, the women's 59kg weightlifting competition of the Hangzhou Asian Games ended at the Xiaoshan Sports Center Gymnasium. The competition gathered world record holder, Tokyo Olympic champion and Chinese Taipei's Guo Wanchun; Riyadh World Champion, Luo Shifang from Guiyang, Hunan Province; Kim Il-kyung, a North Korean athlete who frequently broke records at this Asian Games and became known to the world as a "mysterious master". The competition was also quite tortuous, with two competitors in the snatch stage unsuccessfully eliminating early in three attempts.
In the end, Luo Shifang won a silver medal with a snatch of 107 kg and a jerk of 133 kg, with a total score of 240 kg. North Korea's Kim Il-kyung won the championship with a snatch of 111 kg and a jerk of 135 kg, with a total of 246 kg. His snatch of 111 kg broke the world record, Asian record, Asian Games record, youth world record, and Asian record.
