Gizeng Pema's first encounter with Wangchuk took place at a family party, when she was only 7 years old. The young Jizeng Pema did not hesitate to confess to Wangchuk, who was still a prince at the time, and she said firmly: "Because I have a crush on you, I just want to follow you."
