Shanguo Daily: "The Eve of the Catastrophe" may be renamed; Reorganization of the studio founded by former Blizzard employees

1. Imagendary Studios, founded by former Blizzard employees, is in crisis

Last week, David Luong, a former Imagendary Studios employee, posted on LinkedIn that the studio has been deeply restructured and their future faces major problems.

David Luong wrote: "Our dreams were shattered, Imagendary Studios underwent a deep restructuring, most were laid off, employees left the company in June or July, and I was one of the last key members to stay and pack up. ”

It is reported that Imagendary Studios was founded in 2020 by former Blizzard artist Wei Wang and acquired by FunPlus in April 2021. The studio never announced its first project, but their goal was to "bring cross-platform triple-A games to players around the world."

Imagendary Studios also promoted Age of Dino, a blockchain-based MMO game, and at the time said they were supporters of the project.

2. "Eve of Havoc" faces a name change storm

The Day Before, which was once second on Steam's wishlist, had a copyright dispute with a calendar app called "The Day Before" after several bounces and lack of physical content, and the game's Steam page has been taken down.

Recently, foreign media PCGamesN discovered a new "security risk" in "Eve of Havoc", and they noticed that MytonaFntastic (a joint venture between publisher Mytona and developer Fntastic) applied for a computer game software trademark called "Dayworld" on August 3. Given Fntastic's statement that "victory is coming back," it makes sense to associate "Dayworld" with "The Day Before."

The biggest problem, though, is that "Dayworld" is also a series of novels by Hugo Award-winning author Philip José Ferrer, and publisher Open Road Media is still selling the trilogy, which could cause more trouble if Fntastic decides to rename the game "Dayworld."

Since Fntastic announced in January this year that the release date of the game has been postponed from March 1 to November 10, there has been no news, and it is difficult to say whether Eve of Catastrophe is ready for release in 2 and a half months.

3. The director of Mortal Kombat 1 wants to add more new elements

Recently, Ed Boon, director of Mortal Kombat 1 and chief creative officer of the studio, said in an interview with IGN: "I definitely wanted to do something different. Surprisingly, I didn't feel exhausted because we were always experimenting with new content for every game, and Mortal Kombat 1 was no exception. ”

Ed Boon adds, "Sometimes we think about adding new modes like 'Puzzle Kombat' puzzle kombat, 'Konquest' conquest, and now 'Invasions'. So I think for NetherRealm Studios, these game features and modes can stay fresh, while we're still working on the core mechanics of fighting games like online, single-player, etc."

Mortal Kombat 1 is a series reboot of the legendary fighting game, where Vulcan Liu Kang resets everything after the ending of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, resulting in dramatic changes in timeline, plot, and character relationships. In addition to the all-new story, the game also includes a unique invasion mode, where players will battle invaders from other worlds and enjoy RPG elements in a boardgame-style layout. There are also mini-games, such as Arcade Towers.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be officially released on September 19, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch.

4. The Nintendo Switch has sold more than the Wii in the United States

The life cycle of the Nintendo Switch is close to 7 years and overall sales are expected to slow down next month, but its worldwide sales are still growing at a surprising rate.

According to Circana's report on the Internet data network GamesIndustry, the total sales of the Nintendo Switch in the United States now surpass that of the Wii. As of June 30, NS sold 129.53 million units worldwide, making it the third-best-selling console of all time, behind the PS2 (155 million) and Nintendo DS (15.402 billion)
