Randy George, 59, was born into a well-off family in a remote rural Iowa family. At the age of 22, he was admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and after graduation, he became an infantry officer in the army, and served as a platoon commander, then deputy company commander, company commander, division commander's adjutant and battalion combat staff officer in the 101st Airborne Division.
