Full-stack intelligence helps China's intelligent transformation

It is a great honor to take advantage of the 2023 China Computing Power Conference to report to all leaders, peers and friends from all walks of life Lenovo's thoughts and experiences in devoting itself to the construction of national computing power and China's intelligent transformation.

Lenovo was born in 1984, during the third industrial revolution, the information revolution, and information technology such as computers were widely used. Lenovo is fortunate to resonate with the reform and opening up of China, and after nearly 40 years of efforts, it has grown into a leading enterprise in the global computer industry.

Today, we are in the wave of the fourth industrial revolution - intelligent revolution, which gives China the opportunity to rely on the industrial chain advantages accumulated by reform and opening up to achieve curve overtaking on a global scale through intelligent transformation.

The development process from the information revolution to the intelligent revolution is also the process of upgrading from traditional IT-Information Technology to new IT-Intelligent Transformation.

Among them, productivity factors have developed from traditional IT equipment and system tools to artificial intelligence-related elements such as data, computing power and algorithms.

The technical architecture has evolved from the cloud/pipe/device, steady-state and solidified architecture in the traditional IT period to an agile and flexible "device-edge-cloud-network-intelligence" new IT architecture.

At the same time, for enterprises, the value of IT has changed from improving the efficiency of existing businesses to reengineering or even business innovation.

At present, a clear trend is that China will accelerate the formation of an independent and complete AI ecosystem. I think this ecology will have three characteristics:

The first characteristic is that the terminal has superintelligence.

In the future, the terminal will embed super computing power to complete the training and inference tasks of the user's personalized model on the end.

The way AI-capable devices interact with users will continue to evolve, allowing users to express their intentions and needs more naturally.

Super smart terminals can also work together seamlessly between multiple devices. The device-side AI model is fully integrated with user data, and various applications are coordinated, becoming a super intelligent assistant for users.

The second characteristic is hybrid architecture computing

The AI training load will be further sunk from the cloud to the edge and device, and the inference load will be reasonably distributed between the cloud, edge, and device, forming a cloud/edge/device hybrid architecture.

From the perspective of deployment mode, public, private, and individual can be deployed in a mix based on different scenarios.

At the same time, the deployment of intelligent computing centers is accelerating, and a pattern of mixed development of intelligent computing/supercomputing/general computing power will be formed.

The third feature is that AI will be applied in all scenarios of the industry

The wide application of AI on the B side has exponentially improved the efficiency of enterprises. Taking Lenovo's computer manufacturing company Lianbao Technology as an example, 80% of the more than 100,000 computers produced daily are customized orders with a quantity of less than 5 units, and the scheduling complexity is about 10 to the power of 160, between chess and Go. After using the machine, the daily scheduling time has been increased from 6 hours of manual production to only 90 seconds.

In the past few years, Lenovo has foreseen the general trend of the intelligent revolution and launched the 3S strategy, committed to becoming a leader and enabler of intelligent transformation.

These three pillars represent Lenovo's three major business segments now, which we call 3S.

● The first business segment is the smart Internet of Things, and Lenovo is the world's leading supplier of PCs, tablets and mobile phones. With the development of intelligence, services such as cloud computers and IoT terminal devices are also growing rapidly.

● The second segment is intelligent infrastructure. In this space, we are the third largest AI infrastructure and server provider in the world and the fastest growing of the top three. In the field of high-performance computing, Lenovo has remained number one in the world and China for many years.

● The third segment is Solutions and Services. In the past 10 years, Lenovo has restructured its IT architecture and built an intelligent IT engine with cloud native/middle platform, AI intelligence and ESG characteristics - Lenovo DynaSky. Relying on DynaSky Engine, it has helped more than 500 Chinese customers to transform intelligently from 2018 to the present. Last year, it surpassed IBM to become China's second-largest IT service provider after carriers.

Lenovo's forward-looking layout for intelligent transformation makes us uniquely a manufacturer of full-stack intelligent products and solution services (as shown in the figure), which includes AI-embedded intelligent terminals, AI-oriented infrastructure, and AI-native services and solutions.

In particular, Lenovo's AI-oriented computing power infrastructure not only leads the performance, but also fully covers cloud and edge computing power scenarios, and meets the training and inference needs of AI large models and traditional models. Just yesterday, we released a new AI model training server with 8-card NVlink GPU and an AI training and push all-in-one server with 8-card PCIe GPU. In addition, Lenovo actively applies advanced green technologies such as water cooling to achieve double-digit improvements in system performance, and reduces data center energy costs by up to 40%, which has been applied in multiple scenarios such as Shanghai Jiaotong University and Geely Automobile.

In response to China's local demand, Lenovo launched the "Wentian" server brand, which combined with ThinkSystem to achieve global resources and local delivery.

Lenovo actively responds to the national strategy of "counting from east to west", and has deployed green data center resources in western regions such as Ningxia, and has joined hands with various parties to create a number of industry benchmark projects.

Lenovo participated in the construction of Zijin Cloud, the largest intelligent computing and supercomputing platform in Northwest China, in Gansu. The Zijin Cloud computing power platform not only undertakes the function of a collaborative hub between the west and the east, but also transports advanced computing power between the device, edge, and cloud networks to meet the demand for computing and storage resources in the northwest region.

Lenovo also established the first Lenovo Calculation Service Base in Zhongwei, Ningxia, which can be purchased on demand and paid flexibly.
