On July 23, "Sichuan Airlines 8985 Emergency Landing in Jiangsu" was on the hot search. The reporter of Beijing Youth Daily learned that on the evening of July 21, affected by thunderstorms, Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8985, which was originally scheduled to land in Wuxi, Jiangsu, made an emergency landing at Jiangsu Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport. In order to escort the randomly transported human live organs, Yangtai Airport prepared an airport ambulance in advance and arrived at Wuxi People's Hospital with the live organs after the plane landed. It takes about 7 hours from the removal of the donor organ to the start of the transplant procedure. According to the team of Chen Jingyu, a well-known lung transplant expert, the operation was successfully completed after the arrival of the donor organ, and the patient is still in the ICU, but the artificial lung and ventilator have been removed, and the newly transplanted lung can be used to breathe spontaneously.

The plane transporting living organs encountered a thunderstorm and the airport sent an ambulance relay escort

According to Yangzhou Thailand International Airport, on July 21, many places in Jiangsu were covered by thunderstorms, and the meteorological department predicted that it could not be dissipated in a short period of time, and during the impact of thunderstorms at airports in southern Jiangsu, aircraft could not take off and land normally. At about 20:13 on the same day, Sichuan Airlines dispatched to contact the command center of Yangtai Airport, flight 3U8985 was originally planned to go from Chengdu to Wuxi, type A330, a total of 251 passengers on board, due to weather conditions to apply for alternate landing at Yangtai Airport, the command center immediately replied and accepted the alternate landing.

The airport operation command center received a notice from the crew that there were living human organs randomly transported, which was related to life and needed to race against time, and the airport immediately activated the emergency rescue response mechanism and notified the ambulance vehicle to be in place in front of the aircraft position.

At 20:32, flight 3U8985 landed in place. Two doctors walked off the plane carrying living transport equipment and said that the best preservation time for living organs was 6 hours, and now 3 hours have passed, hoping to get help from the airport. The airport duty leader immediately issued instructions to give priority to first-aid tasks, and sent airport ambulances to carry medical staff and living organs directly to Wuxi People's Hospital free of charge. The airport public security sub-bureau responded positively and did a good job in road safety for vehicle traffic. Before boarding the bus, two paramedics thanked airport leaders on behalf of the patient's family waiting for surgery.

The plane has not yet landed, the patient has begun to undergo open heart surgery, the donor organ arrived in time, and the operation was successfully completed

At 22:45, the Yangtai Airport ambulance arrived at Wuxi People's Hospital with living organs, and the doctors who had been waiting for a long time immediately rushed to the operating room with living organs. Subsequently, the operation officially began and ended smoothly at about 3 a.m. on July 22.

The organ transplant was performed by the team of well-known lung transplant expert Chen Jingyu. On July 23, Chen Jingyu told the Beiqing News reporter that the operation was quite smooth, the patient's condition is stable, the ECMO (artificial lung) and ventilator have been removed, and the patient has been able to breathe spontaneously with the newly transplanted lung, but still needs to stay in the ICU for further observation.

Chen Jingyu told Beijing Youth Daily that the lung transplant was performed by other doctors in her team for a lung transplant for an emphysema patient in his 60s. The donor came from Chengdu and was donated by a deceased patient. Donors are allocated through a LAS-scoring system, matched to suitable recipients.

According to Chen Jingyu, the donor was taken from the donor at about 16 o'clock on July 21 and urgently sent to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport for boarding. The plane was scheduled to take off at 17:20 and land in Wuxi at 19:55. The medical team that performed the lung transplant surgery for the patient also arranged and prepared the operation according to the time of take-off and landing, and the patient had already begun to undergo open heart surgery before the plane landed. The flight was affected by the weather and could not land in Wuxi, and "the news came, and the doctors and the patient's family were very anxious."

Organ transplant team: total donor transport time exceeds golden 6 hours However, it has little effect on surgery and postoperative recovery

"We were going to send a car, but there was no time, and we didn't expect that an ambulance had been prepared at Yangtai Airport. It was the first time I encountered an ambulance at the airport, which was a great thing, and I hope that this experience can be used as a reference. Chen Jingyu said that organ transplantation has a "golden 6 hours", which means that the time between the removal of the donor organ from the donor to the start of the transplant operation should not exceed six hours. If this time is exceeded, it may lead to a decrease in donor activity and quality.

Chen Jingyu said that the "extreme rescue" of escorting donor organs lasted from 16:00 to 22:45 on July 21, and although the total transportation time exceeded the "golden six hours", it did not have much impact on the operation and postoperative recovery. "Everyone did their best. The donor was transported to the hospital in less than seven hours, which is acceptable, as evidenced by the patient's good postoperative condition. Because technology is constantly evolving, so are the acceptable transit times. It may be that the "golden seven hours" and "golden eight hours" will slowly appear in the future to create more favorable conditions for organ donation and transplant surgery. ”
