The Shandong Provincial Drama Theater version of "Thunderstorm" is faithful to the original classic, focusing on contemporary expression, and is a rare full-version performance. On the basis of strictly following the original work, the characters and situations in the play are restored and sorted out, the prologue and epilogue are vividly interpreted, the foundation of the drama conflict is built with "sincere and real emotions", and the dramatic contradictions are unfolded on the basis of "the characters are flesh and blood", and strive to explore the softest expression of the author's heart and the most cruel reality of the plot with the humanistic spirit that is more in line with "drama is to write people".
In the arduous creative process of pursuing "Thunderstorm in the Heart", this play strives to take the light of "true feelings" from the classics as its own responsibility, break the relationship between spectators and performers, and immerse the audience in it. The Shandong Provincial Drama Theater's version of "Thunderstorm" is not unconventional, but traces back to the source, and we use the "Thunderstorm" created with awe to give back to the audience who love drama, so as to pay tribute to the classics and comfort the masters who have gone away.
Director's elaboration
Director: Fang Wei
Director Fang Wei hopes that this work can lead the audience to immerse themselves in the prescribed situation of "Thunderstorm", break the relationship between viewing and acting, and let the audience and actors complete the pursuit of "Thunderstorm in their hearts" together.
The whole play takes Zhou Puyuan as the main line, and on the basis of respecting the original play, more attention is paid to tracking the trajectory of the protagonist's fate; In the end, as Mr. Cao Yu wished, the audience who watched the play would go home "with a touch of sadness", the play took the stage as the origin, but was not limited to the stage, and expanded the stage area to the audience, expanding beyond the "Zhou Mansion", when looking for Sifeng together in the thunderstorm, the audience became participants, and the actors were immersed in the thunderstorm night, which not only shortened the viewing distance, but also made the audience become the people in the play, adding a tense and interesting experience.
