China Entrepreneur: The book "Refresh" reminds us of Microsoft's Nadella, who has a book called "Refresh", and both books are about "new" stories. "New" is common sense and a huge challenge. How can an established company go "new"?

Liu Yonghao: The so-called maturity may mean that a person is relatively old, or an organization is relatively bloated. For companies with similar large enterprise diseases, the key is to change, to adjust, to have new thinking and strategic considerations, new organizational systems, new incentives, to make the company more dynamic. This is a must.

China Entrepreneur: The book "Huanxin" was completed in 2022, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the founding of New Hope. Last year, New Hope focused on summarizing, and this year, New Hope is 41 years old, will you spend more energy looking forward and thinking about what to do in the next 40 years?

Liu Yonghao: New Hope has gone through 40 years, almost in sync with the country's reform and opening up. In the past 40 years, many companies have prospered, and many companies have disappeared, and we are still today, and I think this in itself is not easy. How to go in the next 40 years? We are also thinking now. But obviously the next 40 years are unlikely to be under my leadership, or I may still be visible.

I'm in my 70s, and in another 40 years, I'll be over 110. Maybe with the advancement of technology, people can live to be 150 years old at that time, but I think it will be difficult for me to live to 150 years old. So now we want to do some planning and nurturing so that the group can go through the next 40 years. Even we consider whether it is possible that the next 40 years will be in the next 40 years, and the next 40 years will be there.

If there are three 40 years, the company is 120 years. People say that it is difficult to be a century-old store, and we must strive to do it for 120 years, of course, it is even more difficult.

We have been working in agriculture and food for thousands of years. Some people say that this field is a long live industry, no matter what, people always have to eat, and a lot of the energy and protein needed for life come from agriculture. Of course, it is possible that in another 10 years or 100 years, a lot of food is not necessarily directly grown from the land, and it is possible to create new varieties through industrialization and new scientific and technological progress. But I believe that no matter what, agriculture and food are necessary and there are always people who need to do it. We've been in this area for many years and have some advantages, and I think it's always right to stick with it.

"Chinese Entrepreneur": According to people's age, "forty is not confused", as a company, standing on the first 40 years node, what is not confused? Are there any doubts?

Liu Yonghao: In the past 40 years, our enterprise has undergone great changes, and our country has also undergone greater changes. 40 years ago, the country has just begun to reform and open up, the problem of food and clothing is the first priority, many products are in short supply, as long as you have products can always be sold. Today, almost all the main products are in a state of oversupply, more how to occupy the mind of the market, to ask yourself: Is the quality of your product better? Is branding better? Is the price better? Is the taste better?

In short, among the many products that are oversupplied, you have to make the people believe you, identify with you, and buy your products, which is a huge change. We were lucky enough to encounter the country's reform and opening up and start a business. At that time, as long as you have the courage to do it seriously, you will definitely achieve achievements, regardless of whether you are literate, whether you are highly educated, or whether you are particularly smart. Today, courage and diligence are not enough. You also need to have wisdom, understand brand building, have policy concepts, and consider the general trend. Talk about learning ability: learn to fail and avoid your own failure

China Entrepreneur: In the group of entrepreneurs, you belong to the category of people who love to learn. How do you keep your body of knowledge up to date?

Liu Yonghao: Now more and more entrepreneurs of science and technology enterprises, the bosses are masters and doctors, and some have returned from overseas study. I was ashamed that I didn't read much, and in 1967 I was finally admitted to a junior high school, and then I entered a secondary school, and studied seriously in the secondary school, but after all, it was still a little worse. Later, the college entrance examination resumed, and I participated in the exam. But at that time, I was older and my academic requirements were not so high, so I boldly went to start a business.

In fact, I am still very proud, because I am still learning on my own while starting a business. At that time, I went to the local radio and television university. Some people say I'm from Tsinghua, some say I'm from Harvard, and my school is the one that trains the most, the broadest, and the most grounded students.

China Entrepreneur: How has your personal learning status been in recent years?

Liu Yonghao: My study state is still quite good. I like to communicate with people, communicate with people, like to visit some successful companies, or visit some successful companies that are experiencing difficulties to see what problems they face. Compared with learning success, I think it is more important to fail in learning and try to avoid your own failure. An enterprise like us, after more than 40 years of entrepreneurial efforts, has also achieved certain success, but in the process there are also many difficulties, falling into the river, pond, and sea, how can you still get up, these are experience or ability.

When a person has witnessed and walked through more pits, and dropped more rivers and seas, he will be more mature, more experienced, and more full. If this happens again, he may not fall or get up faster. I think learning failure is valuable.

China Entrepreneur: What's one interesting thing you've learned recently?

Liu Yonghao: I have noticed the changes in the field of artificial intelligence in the past six months. This field gave birth to OpenAI, and ChatGPT has almost reached the level of human intelligence. Now many college students say that they write homework or essays through ChatGPT, and they write much better than themselves.

For example, translation, the machine can translate more accurately, and can translate Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and other languages; If you paint, as long as you tell the machine what kind of painting you want, you can draw it immediately, and it meets your requirements and aesthetics.

After big data training, the height and breadth of current artificial intelligence to solve problems is unattainable by previous artificial intelligence.

My understanding is that the robot's "brain" turned out to be relatively stupid, but through the high-intensity centralized training of big data, it is getting smarter and smarter. The more you see, the more pits you fall, the more achievements you make, the more confident you are, the more methods and ideas, and you can understand people's words. The "brain" is becoming more and more perfect, and it has surpassed human memory and reaction speed.

A person's professionalism is limited, it is possible that he can write articles and speeches, but he does not necessarily operate machines and write code. China Entrepreneur: Have you been inspired by the drastic changes in this field?

Liu Yonghao: I think it is not enough to have a very smart "brain", it still needs to be implemented.

Take our food enterprises, chicken, pork cutting, packaging, screening, handling have different labor, is a labor-intensive enterprise, we new hope to have more than 100,000 employees, there are many people do these most basic work, simple and elementary, although there is a certain degree of automation, but the essence is repetitive labor.

China Entrepreneur: Can you feel your excitement about artificial intelligence, where does the motivation come from?

Liu Yonghao: Our enterprises are engaged in agricultural industry and food, and they already have a considerable scale and the output value is not low, but the problem we face is that the efficiency is relatively low and the labor is intensive, so how can we be competitive? Everyone said that using science and technology should be innovative, how to create scientific and technological innovation? In what direction? This requires companies to keep up with trends and learn hard.

I am older, the company has a group of young classmates, they are very hard-working, very diligent, the understanding of society, the organization, the Internet is better than me, I am idle and have nothing to look around and learn. I have a lot of entrepreneurial friends and have the opportunity to learn from them, through relationships between friends or businesses. Learning these new technologies, new trends, new developments, and new trends may be a point of excitement and interest for me, and I am also very happy and happy.

I also read a lot of books, focusing on social changes, technological progress, market progress and changes in competitiveness, which is just one aspect. Books often record things that take a longer time, while the Internet records things that are more recent or are happening, and it is now a matter of communicating and discussing with young people, so I like to communicate with young people, entrepreneurs, excellent entrepreneurs, and pioneers of science and technology about today's events. I don't study much about history, I'm more interested in what happened today and yesterday, and I think it's more valuable to consider, speculate, study, judge, and follow up on future trends based on them.

China Entrepreneur: Have you used ChatGPT yourself? Did you ask a question or two above?

Liu Yonghao: Of course. A few days after OpenAI's ChatGPT launched, it was very popular, and I saw it as soon as it was reported, and then I asked the company's digital technology department to follow up immediately to see what methods could be used.

We have many overseas companies, they give me a mobile phone, I said I have to try it, so I spoke to it with Chinese, first said the three words "new hope", it immediately said: new hope is a feeling, a state, a kind of expectation for the future, probably like this; But I also said "China New Hope Company" (because there are other companies in the world), and it replied: China New Hope Company is a large enterprise in China, an enterprise with a history, an enterprise engaged in agriculture and food, and a feed production number one enterprise; When I asked it again what New Hope New Project was doing, the answer was agricultural products, food, pig farming, and so on, and it was basically correct. And it can be answered in English, more accurate, faster to come, slightly slower to use Chinese, less informative.

China Entrepreneur: Can you give an example of how New Hope achieves "renewal" through technological means?

Liu Yonghao: New Hope has an enterprise engaged in cold chain logistics, and from the first day of its establishment, we have positioned it as a technology-based big data company, which is to make all links of cold chain logistics online: cold chain vehicles online, goods on the vehicle online, logistics related personnel online, and libraries online. Everything is online, which means the data is instantaneous, which means I know the whole process. It must be visible online, and it must always be grasped to drive it to generate value.

This company is called fresh life cold chain logistics, and a digital technology company called "Yun Lizhi" has been established below, which started with a scale of hundreds of people, and now it is two or three hundred people, doing 4 years, all some engineers are studying digitalization. Today, our cold chain logistics has a scale of almost 20 billion, and I have been told that it is the head enterprise of China's cold chain logistics, and it has doubled its growth almost every year in the past few years.

New Hope has dairy factories, food factories, must have cold chain distribution, cars, storage, in the past these businesses shared a cost center, sometimes idle, sometimes not enough, very unscientific, often delivery when a car can not be loaded, but must be delivered. We want to concentrate all aspects of our own links, about 10 billion sales scale, to establish a company, with a new partnership mechanism, armed with technology.

China Entrepreneur: What problems need to be solved in the process of arming with science and technology?

Liu Yonghao: We solved several problems: First, choose a track.

China's cold chain logistics is relatively weak now, and we judge that there will be a big development in the future, because of consumption upgrades, people's lifestyles have changed. In the past, every family cooked at home, but now young people cook less, they are all mobile phones, and takeaway will arrive. This way of life is irreversible and affects more and more people, and we must adapt to it for those who produce food. What to do? For example, pre-made dishes, central large kitchens, many companies are doing today. We are originally producing food, there is a supply chain, there is an industrial system, food quality can be controlled, and there is no very strong company in the field of cold chain logistics, this is the big track.

Second, it will surely develop rapidly; Third, there are no head enterprises yet; Fourth, is it possible for us to compete to be a leading enterprise.

What should we do to be a leading company? First, we started early, about five or six years ago, and it was good at that time, with about a billion sales a year. We spun off our cold chain truck and warehousing business and put it in the new company; Secondly, new mechanisms must be used. The original large enterprises were too slow to approve at all levels, and the partnership mechanism was used to let people who could hear the gunfire command, let young people go to the front line, and the interests were connected as both managers and entrepreneurs; Third, we must be armed with high technology. But for a company, after a long time, the company is bigger, and the tradition of the industry also determines that it will definitely get the disease of large companies.
