Chairman of Microsoft Greater China: In the future, every application will be driven by AI, which are six key application scenarios

On July 6, the 2023 World Conference on Artificial Intelligence (WAIC) opened in Shanghai. At the opening ceremony of the conference, Hou Yang, senior vice president of Microsoft and chairman and CEO of Microsoft Greater China, said that in the future, any company needs to have the ability to harness digital technology, and every application of every company will be driven by artificial intelligence.

Hou Yang pointed out that the technological breakthrough of artificial intelligence is bringing once-in-a-lifetime innovation opportunities and challenges to all walks of life, which also prompts the industry to think about how to use it to enhance the creativity and competitiveness of enterprises themselves.

Hou Yang said that while achieving technological breakthroughs, Microsoft is thinking about how to transform research results into productivity, hoping to combine generative artificial intelligence with occupational needs in the first time to accelerate industrial upgrading and innovation.

According to the industrial intelligence solutions of recent global customers, Hou Yang said that Microsoft has summarized six key industry innovation scenarios for applying artificial intelligence, including manufacturing and energy, retail and e-commerce, digital native games, finance and insurance, life sciences, and education and talent training:

In terms of manufacturing and energy, it can be applied from the perspectives of knowledge base management of production materials, product quality analysis and traceability, full-scenario simulation training of autonomous driving, and virtual car assistants.

For example, we can innovate the intelligent customer service of retail e-commerce, realize interactive search, and guide consumption trends.

We can also build lifelike NPC characters in the game, generating unlimited stories and realistic dialogue.

In the financial industry, we can obtain the analysis report of the financial market implementation at any time, and discover and control potential financial transaction risks earlier.

In the field of life sciences research, we can also improve the analysis capabilities of clinical trial data, accelerate the research of drugs and vaccines, and achieve more accurate medical image recognition and diagnosis.

In education, we can also bring students more inspiring, interactive, customized and geographically independent of exploratory learning methods, and we can help develop creative and lifelong learning talents that are better suited to the needs of the future market.

Finally, Hou Yang also expressed concern about the security risks brought about by the development of AI. In this regard, he said that Microsoft will create responsible artificial intelligence, adhere to fairness, reliability and security, privacy and protection, inclusiveness, transparency and responsibility.

The theme of this year's World Artificial Intelligence Conference is Intelligent Connected World, Generative Future, and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of Microsoft's experience and thoughts gained in expanding the ecological innovation of generative artificial intelligence and accelerating the promotion of industrial intelligent connection.

Artificial intelligence as a scientific research project first appeared in 1956 and has been developed for nearly 70 years. With the overnight popularity of ChatGPT at the end of last year, large models and AIGC, generative artificial intelligence seems to explode in an instant, and even many practitioners in the technology industry are surprised by the sudden emergence of AIGC.

In fact, in Microsoft's view, the so-called emergence is no accident, countless excellent researchers for decades of research foundation and massive computing resources investment, to create such innovative results.

As you may know, OpenAI ChatGPT's breakthrough relies on the infrastructure and computing power support provided by Microsoft Intelligent Cloud. Since 2019, Microsoft has carried out in-depth cooperation with OpenAI to support the research of OpenAI large language models with massive cloud computing resources. The foundation of our strategic cooperation is that both of our companies sincerely want to create artificial intelligence technology that benefits every business and every consumer.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January this year, Microsoft CEO Mr. Nadley mentioned that the golden age of artificial intelligence has arrived, and Microsoft Intelligent Cloud has opened a new mode of acceleration.

We fully integrate the latest AI intelligence technology with enterprise-level cloud services, so as to empower enterprises to achieve true digital intelligence convergence in the process of industrial digital transformation. Our Azure Open AI Enterprise service introduces five models, including GPT 4 and Enterprise ChatGPT, to enable customers to create customized intelligent services for different industries.

At the same time, around the Microsoft 365 office Dynamics 365 business applications, GitHub open source community development, digital information security protection, employee experience improvement and the Windows operating system that each of us is familiar with, Microsoft has also launched a series of AI-driven Copilot intelligent co-pilot services, users can use natural language to put forward needs, Copilot can help users efficiently complete a series of tasks, such as quickly writing code. Develop an application, or design a complete set of illustrated PPT presentations based on the outline of the speech.

The scenarios I just gave are not fiction today, this is a realistic work scenario that many enterprises including Microsoft have practiced, such as the much-watched OpenAI enterprise-level service has been approved by more than 4,500 companies around the world since its launch for a few months, and has been practicing intelligent innovation in the production environment of manufacturing, retail, finance, service and other industries.

For example, GitHub Copilot for assisted programming has been used by more than 1 million developers around the world since its launch a year and a half, and nearly half of their code has been completed with Copilot's help, and the speed of programming has increased by more than 50%.

In these positive attempts by global customers to Microsoft AI services, we not only see the innovation enthusiasm of enterprises to accelerate digital transformation, but also feel the urgent demand for a new generation of generative artificial intelligence in the market. Therefore, Microsoft is also continuously increasing investment to fully promote the development and popularization of generative artificial intelligence. At the Microsoft Worldwide Developers Conference held in May this year, Microsoft released more than 50 new technologies and services related to generative AI development.

One of the most important is that we opened up the Copilot and plugins plugin extension to developers around the world, enabling developers, partners, and business users around the world to seize the innovative opportunities presented by generative AI and create an unprecedented next generation of intelligent applications.

Among them, the intelligent plugins plug-in extension system adopts the same technical standards as OpenAI, which can build a secure and reliable connection between third-party applications, customers, business scenarios and generative artificial intelligence, and access real-time updated information flow and a variety of applications and services through plugins to add more professional computing power to the AI system and create a richer, more convenient to use and more accurate intelligent co-pilot dialogue service.

It is expected that by the time Microsoft Microsoft 365 Copilot is officially released, we will provide more than 1,000 plugins for developers to choose from. What is even more worth looking forward to is that developers and partners around the world will have the ability to independently use these plug-in interfaces and intelligent services to develop more and richer and unique innovative applications of intelligent co-pilots.

There is no doubt that these are a new generation of intelligent interactive applications based on natural language dialogue, which will open up a more exciting digital world for us.
