On June 27 , 2008 , the NBA director announced to fans worldwide via live television that the Chicago Bulls had selected Derek Ross from Memphis University with the top pick. Since then, a legendary story about the "Windy City Rose" has begun. Ross was born in Chicago's Inglewood district, a crime-ridden, gang-infested neighborhood and one of the most dangerous places in all of Chicago. His mother raised him and his three older brothers alone, and life was very difficult. Under the influence of his older brothers, Rose loved the Chicago Bulls from an early age and idolized Michael Jordan. In high school, coaches considered Rose to be one of the hardest working players on the court.
After entering the University of Memphis, under the guidance of his coach, Rose became the team's starter in his freshman season, leading the team to a 26-game winning streak. His performance was high-profile, leading the team to the NCAA Finals, but losing to the University of Kansas in overtime. Still, Rose averaged 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists that season and became a high-profile rookie. Therefore, the Bulls decided to select him with a top pick, ultimately proving their choice right.
Ross's rookie season was excellent, with his physicality and unreasonable changes of direction and aerial pull driving fans crazy. His speed is so fast that other players simply can't keep up with his pace and can only watch him complete a dunk in the air or complete a difficult score.
In his rookie season, Rose averaged 37 minutes per game, scoring 16.8 points and 6.3 assists, and was a member of the Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Year. He also participated in the All-Star Skills Challenge, where he won the championship. Under his leadership, the Bulls finished seventh in the East with a 41-win record and successfully returned to the playoffs. This made the Bulls more determined to build a team with Ross at the core.
In the 2009 draft, the Bulls drafted two forward players, Gibson and Johnson. In 2009-10, Ross also improved his average to 20.8 points and 6.0 assists per game, becoming the team's leader and leading scorer.
This season, at just 21 years and 133 days, Rose became an All-Star, becoming the youngest All-Star in Bulls history. In the summer of 2010, the Bulls hired Celtics' defensive coach Thibodeau as head coach. The decision gave Ross more opportunities. However, in a sense, this decision also ruined Ross.

Thibodeau is known for tuning defense, and he led Yumoa, Gibson and Boozer into a steel defense that made all the biggest stars in the league feel uncomfortable. The defensive iron team, which focuses on discipline and rebounding, is second in the league by conceding just 91.3 points per game.
