The Detroit Pistons, located in Detroit, Michigan, USA, were founded in 1941 and joined the NBA in 1948 and are now the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. In 1981, the Pistons selected Isaiah Thomas of Indiana University with the second pick in the first round, and under Thomas, swept the Lakers 4-0 in the 1989 NBA Finals to win the championship. In 1990, the Pistons defended their title by defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 4–1 in the Finals. In the 2003–04 season, under the direction of coach Larry Brown, the Pistons reached the Finals again with Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups as the core, and defeated the Big Four Lakers 4-1 to return to the championship team.
