Dennis Rodman: "Larry Bird won't be in today's NBA, he'll be in Europe"
As an old rival or contemporary, Rodman was never a fan of Larry Bird. The Hall of Famer said on the VladTV show that Bird wouldn't play well in the modern NBA.
"If Bird had played in this era, I think he would have been in Europe, he would have been somewhere over there. His game was just for the Boston team in the eighties and I wouldn't underestimate him because he's a great player, just like me. But I said, no, there's no way to put his technology now. And I think Jokic, a kid from Denver, is much better than him, and Bird is horribly slow. ”
This isn't the first time Rodman has come to bait Bird. During the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals, Rodman said Bird received praise primarily for his game rather than his technique.
When asked to review that comment, Rodman said it was out of frustration with the Pistons' loss to the Celtics. "I'm just talking casually." Rodman said. "That's why I could say that, not because I'm angry or out of hatred, no, just say it that way."
Bird played 15 regular-season games with Rodman during his career, averaging 24.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game. In 18 playoff games, Bird averaged 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.
