Five incidents of student gun ownership were detected in New York City public schools over the past two days

In the past two days, in the public schools of New York City, the largest public school system in the country, students have been found holding guns five times, some of which are loaded. The NYC School Safety Coalition is holding a press conference today on guns on campus.

According to ABC7, the five campus gun incidents were largely detected by unarmed NYPD school security guards.

On Wednesday, school police found three guns on students at three schools, the Bronx and Brooklyn, and more at schools in the Bronx and Queens on Thursday morning.

At the Brooklyn I.S. 98 Bay Academy, a 14-year-old student showed another student at the school a pink 0.9mm pistol. The student had told his mother the night before that he would take the gun to school, and her mother called the school later. School security officers searched the student and found a loaded gun in his bag.

At Martin Van Buren High School in Queens, a 17-year-old boy showed a gun to another student. School security personnel heard about the incident and conducted a search and found the gun in his backpack.

Thursday's shooting took place a few steps away from PS65 Mother Hale Academy in south Bronx. Police quickly detained a person. The victims were not expected to be life-threatening.
