He inherited the ancient literature of his fellow villagers Fang Bao, Liu Daxun, and Yao Fan, and became a master of the tongcheng school's prose, and also supplemented and developed the literary theory of the Tongcheng school. He not only expanded Fang Bao's theory of "righteousness" and advocated the unity of "righteousness, evidence, and lexicon," but also inherited and carried forward Liu Daxun's theory of "divine qi" and put forward the theory of the unity of "god, reason, qi, and taste" with "grid, law, sound, and color."; at the same time, he also summarized and summarized the stylistic theory of the articles of the past, and developed the aesthetic concept of "masculinity and femininity" in contrast. He is the author of "The Complete Collection of Xi Baoxuan" and other works, and the "Selected Poems of the Modern Style" and "Compilation of Ancient Texts and Dictionaries" compiled by him have been widely circulated. His prose is concise and rigorous, and his representative works include "Dengtai Mountain", "Yuan Suiyuanjun's Epitaph", "You Meibi Fountain" and so on.

Although Yao Nai's calligraphy is not as outstanding as his literary achievements, his inkblots are sparse and sparse, and his flowing and beautiful posture contains the atmosphere of Confucianism and elegance, which is also extraordinary.
