Cheng Yi talked about the true way of learning for scholars

Mr. Yichuan said: "The way of the saints is as calm as the road, and the scholars are sick and cannot hear their ears." Get its door, no far away also. Isn't it because of the reason to get into its doors? There are many people who govern the scriptures today, but everyone is everyone who buys the pearls and returns them. The sutra is also carried by the tao. To recite his words and to interpret his precepts, but not to reach the Word, is a useless dross. ”

In mr. Yichuan's view (Cheng Yi), the doctrine of the saints is like a big road, and the biggest problem for learners is that they cannot find a way. If you find the doorway, even the most profound truth can be obtained. And to find the way, it is not enough not to read the real scriptures. There are many people who study the scriptures now, but most of them have the cover of buying and returning the pearls, that is, they are giving up their books one by one, and they have not really understood the road in the scriptures. The Scriptures contain the Tao, which records and preaches the way of the saints. Simply memorizing words and sentences, explaining the meaning of words, and not really understanding the original meaning of the dao, is not much use of a little.

Han Yu once said, "Teachers, preaching is also subject to karma and solving problems", which also puts "preaching" in the first place. Therefore, true teaching and learning should be to preach and try to learn the deep meaning of the Tao, and to practice it diligently, rather than simply studying the arithmetic of words and phrases or even just pursuing achievements.
