Teachers physically punish students and parents retain: beating + letting Zama step is not a regular discipline

Does the teacher's use of corporal punishment of the student, expulsion from school, but retention by the majority of the parents in the class, justify the teacher's behavior?

A few days ago, a teacher at a school in southern China physically punished students and beat some students with sticks, making them stride for nearly an hour. The teacher was expelled from school, and as a result, 44 of the 47 parents took over the teacher in the group. One parent said: "We are usually strict with children, and we have also told the head teacher that we trust her when we give the child into her hands." ”

The peculiarity of this incident is that most parents support teachers in corporal punishment of students. In the subconscious of these parents, the child cannot become a weapon if he does not fight, and the strict master is a high apprentice, which is the experience left by the ancestors. The child is too naughty, and in the case of ineffective verbal persuasion, a certain degree of violence is used to make him "remember".

It is clear that corporal punishment has become a recognized and reasonable means of teaching their children by these parents, who, as the parent said, in fact delegated powers, including corporal punishment, to the teacher, who beat the child.

As for why the children were physically punished by the teacher, according to the principal, many students made indecent gestures in class, and the teacher felt that there might be a problem with the class style, so he criticized the students, and then hit some students with sticks.

As can be seen from the reports, this is an elementary school and the students are minors. Compared with junior and senior high schools, primary school students are more immature in mind, lack the ability to recognize things, and many behaviors often come from imitating others or the outside world, such as film and television, literary works, etc., or adults' words and deeds.

Therefore, many students make indecent gestures, which may be pure imitation, and they do not fully understand the meaning of their gestures. Taking a step back, even if children understand the meaning of gestures and have just entered puberty, it is an increasingly common phenomenon to become curious about sex.

According to survey data released by the China Health Promotion and Education Association, there are about 530,000 precocious children in mainland China, which refers to the second sexual characteristics of girls before the age of 8, boys before the age of 9, or menstruation before the age of 10. Precocious puberty at the physical and psychological level will make some minors have a stronger interest in sexual topics, and even express or release to a certain extent through indecent gestures.

Of course, it is indeed inappropriate for students to do this in class, and teachers have the right to deal with it, but there are many ways to deal with it, such as stopping it in person, talking to students one by one after class, and pointing out problems with their behavior.

In addition, in response to children's sexual curiosity, education departments and schools should also be aware that there are about 530,000 precocious children in mainland China. Chen Wei, a deputy to the National People's Congress and vice president of Quzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Zhejiang Province, proposed to submit the "Proposal on Implementing Comprehensive Sex Education in Kindergartens as Soon as Possible and Developing Chinese-style Teaching Materials" during the two sessions this year, because her previous research found that many kindergarten children are curious about sex and ask questions about male and female sexual characteristics, but teachers have not received training in sex education, it is difficult to answer scientifically, and teachers also said that they need professional training and sex education teaching materials.

Sex education is an indispensable part of the education provided by schools and families, just like the saying circulated in the post-80s and post-90s: "Parents tell us not to fall in love early during school, but they ask us to get married as soon as possible after work." "Love, marriage, and childbirth require both men and women to have a healthy view of marriage and sexuality. If there is no perfect education system that completes from kindergarten, elementary school to junior high school, more children will only make indecent gestures, but cannot find a way to grow physically and mentally.

However, the teacher chose to physically punish the students. It should be noted that she not only hit the students with sticks, but also forced them to walk for up to forty minutes.

According to the doctor, the knee needs to be bent when walking horses, and the knee is usually in a flexed state, which is affected by gravity for a long time, which may cause long-term weight bearing on the knee joint and cause knee joint injury, manifested as pain or swelling. If the horse step is relatively long and there is no rest in time, the muscles of the legs will contract violently, and people will easily feel fatigue, and even risk of falling or thigh muscle strain, which will cause certain damage to the knee. Therefore, doctors recommend that the time of horse walking should be controlled in about 10 to 15 minutes. If symptoms of discomfort occur in the knee, it is necessary to stop it in time and go to the hospital for examination if necessary.

It can be seen that this teacher forced the student to walk for a long time, which will cause a series of serious consequences to the student's body. At the same time, this is not only a physical punishment, but also a mental punishment. Letting other students "watch" the pain of the student who has been physically punished can have a certain psychological intimidation effect.

Between teachers and students, there is a power relationship. In general, teachers are given certain institutional powers to conduct educational and pedagogical activities and to guide students' learning and development.

However, teachers may consciously or unconsciously expand their real power in the process of educating students, and corporal punishment is one of them. Corporal punishment means that the teacher has the power to discipline the student by any means, and the student must obey unconditionally, otherwise he will face an escalation of corporal punishment.

Especially as elementary school students, compared with junior high and high school students who have begun to develop, they are in a weaker stage physically and mentally, and teachers are absolutely strong in the face of students, and they have no scruples about exercising coercive power including corporal punishment.

The recording of the teacher's speech was of a young female teacher. She said: "It is true that I did not grasp this degree well, and I did not take a good approach to this matter at that time, I still have to say sorry to everyone." ”

Indeed, the teacher should apologize, not only to the parents, but also to the children who were physically punished. Schools and the education sector should also send a clear signal that corporal punishment is clearly prohibited in the Teachers Act and the Compulsory Education Law, which shows that there is no violation of the law or not for teachers to physically punish students, only the seriousness of the case. When the teacher slaps the student high, please sound the alarm in your heart: At this moment, your behavior is illegal.
