Liu Zhidan

Liu Zhidan (1903-1936), formerly known as Liu Jinggui and ZiZhidan. Zodiac Sign: Rabbit. A native of Bao'an County, Shaanxi Province.

In 1922, he was admitted to yulin middle school in northern Shaanxi Union County.

In the winter of 1924, he joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League and served as the secretary of the Yulin Middle School Youth League and the president of the student union.

In the spring of 1925, he became a member of the Communist Party of China and was admitted to the 4th Infantry Section of the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou in the summer of the same year.

After graduating in 1926, he participated in the "Northern Expedition". Later, he served as the director of the Political Department of the 4th Route Army of the National Coalition Army (Commander Ma Hongkui), a traffic officer of the Shaanxi Provincial CPC Committee, the chief of staff of the 3rd Brigade of the newly organized 2nd Group Army of the National Revolutionary Army (brigade commander Xu Quanzhong, chief of staff Tang Shu), the secretary of the Northwest Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army Military Commission of the CPC (Weihua Uprising, commander-in-chief Tang Shu, political commissar Liu Jizeng), the secretary of the Military Commission of the Shaanxi Provincial CPC Committee (Pan Zili, secretary of the Provincial CPC Committee), the secretary of the Military Commission of the Northern Shaanxi Special Committee (presiding over the work of the special committee), and the alternate standing committee member of the Shaanxi Provisional Provincial Cpc Committee (Secretary Du Heng). In March 1936, he led the Red 28th Army to participate in the Eastern Crusade, and was killed in the battle of Zhongyang County, Shanxi Province, on April 14, and in June of the same year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to rename Baoan County to "Zhidan County".

At Liu Zhidan's memorial service, Mao Zedong praised him as "a leader of the masses and a national hero."

In 1994, he was identified by the Central Military Commission as one of the "36 military experts of the Chinese People's Liberation Army".

In 2009, he was named one of the "100 Heroic And Exemplary Figures Who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Founding of New China".
