69 years ago today, on the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, a young soldier who was only 26 years old, allowed himself to be burned by the fire and never moved until he died heroically, he was Qiu Shaoyun.

It was a secret battle. In October 1952, Qiu Shaoyun's unit was tasked with attacking the 391 heights west of Jinhua, and in order to shorten the charging distance, the troops decided to lurk in advance. On the night of October 11, Qiu Shaoyun and more than 500 comrades lurked in the grass under the high ground. At noon the next day, the enemy fired incendiary bombs, and just one of them landed next to Qiu Shaoyun, and the grass was instantly ignited.

Suo Decheng was the closest comrade-in-arms to Qiu Shaoyun at that time, and decades later, the old man still clearly remembered the tragic situation on the position at that time.

Boom, up. On Qiu Shaoyun's head, a big fire suddenly burst out."

The flames became more and more exuberant, Qiu Shaoyun's hair was burned, and his body was also burned, but in order not to expose the lurking target, he still lay motionless on this picture, making Guo Anmin, who was not far away, burst into tears.

"The fire on Qiu Shaoyun's body was burning, only to see his two hands inserted into the dirt, in that position did not move, I was already in tears, did not dare to cry out."

The fire burned for more than 30 minutes, and Qiu Shaoyun, who was only 26 years old, died heroically.

After the battle, the comrades found Qiu Shaoyun's body on a burned slope, only to see the charred body curled up, the clothes almost burned, leaving only a palm-sized fragment, the submachine gun was crushed under his body, and the only thing that was not scorched was the pair of hands inserted into the dirt.

Zheng Shicong, the brother of Zheng Shiwen, a veteran of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, was a comrade-in-arms of Qiu Shaoyun and witnessed Qiu Shaoyun's charred body. Now, speaking of this story, Zheng Shiwen, who is 88 years old, has tears in his eyes.

In 1926, Qiu Shaoyun was born in a poor family in Tongliang, Sichuan Province, where his parents died prematurely, leaving four brothers to live a difficult life. In 1949, Qiu Shaoyun resolutely joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army. After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Qiu Shaoyun wrote a letter to his family on his way to the Korean battlefield, which was also his only family letter.

"When I go to the battlefield, I must fight desperately and not be afraid of death, so that all the suffering people can live a good life, what is it that I am dead?"

Before participating in the lurking mission, Qiu Shaoyun submitted an application to the party branch to join the party

"I'd rather sacrifice myself than expose my goal." I am willing to give up everything for the sake of the whole, for the sake of victory, for the cause of liberation of the Chinese and Korean people and all mankind."

Indeed, as he wrote, this soldier used the most stoic lurking to complete the most courageous assault of the Chinese soldiers.

Later, when Qiu Shaoyun's unit left Korea, his comrades-in-arms carved in the place where he had fought: "Comrade Qiu Shaoyun, a great soldier who sacrificed himself for the overall victory, will never die."
