Robin Li frankly said that the lack of engineering thinking was once their shortcoming, but in practical work, engineering thinking is very important, simplifying complexity, knowing compromise and step by step is the main difference between engineering thinking and scientific thinking. "Taking automatic driving as an example, to use scientific thinking to do it is to 'step up to the sky', and then expand the scale and commercialization after achieving L5 level." But L5 level is too difficult to achieve, with engineering thinking to do is to do step by step, first in some scenarios to achieve automatic driving. ”

For example, he said, Tesla took the L2 level first, realized the functions of following the car on the high speed, changing lanes and realizing automatic parking in the parking lot, and then opened the market, and gradually upgraded the level after obtaining the actual user driving data. "We use the gradual change of the driving range of automatic driving, and now in any scenario the full driverless can not do, let's start with the simplest 50,000 kilometers, 100,000 kilometers, technically in the place where there are fewer people and vehicles mixed, in the place where everyone more abides by traffic rules, etc., first operate, in the actual operation process of continuous learning and improvement."

In his view, global scientific and technological innovation has entered an unprecedented period of intensive activity, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is reconstructing the global innovation map, the application of technology is faster than imagined, new engineering construction came into being, and more talents with engineering thinking should be valued. Robin Li believes that talents in the new engineering era should have the ability to innovate, cross-border and open. "In the next decade, there will be eight key technologies in the field of artificial intelligence that will change from quantitative to qualitative, namely autonomous driving, digital city operation, machine translation, biocomputing, deep learning frameworks, knowledge management, AI chips and personal intelligent assistants. These are the best times for tech practitioners. We have enough technical application scenarios, the world's most complete industrial chain supply chain, the continuous improvement of new infrastructure, and the best soil for cultivating leading talents and strategic scientists, and large-scale innovation results will inevitably emerge in China."
