Vladimir School

The Vladimir School

1960-

The concept of the "Vladimir School of Landscape Painting" emerged in the history of Russian contemporary art in the 1960s. This trend brought together artists who wanted to get rid of the natural depictive style, opting for the conventional principles of open ornamentation and color in painting. The roots of this trend lie in the miniature models of Mstera lacquerware, icon paintings and deep folk cultural traditions. The popularity and admiration of the Vladimir School extends far beyond the region.

Together, Vladimir's artists managed to form a common system of painting. All its representatives, very different in their performance styles, are brought together by a single sense and emotional perception of the world, professionalism and high demands on themselves. The pure, open colors used by the Vladimir brush masters are the main factors that have an emotional impact on the viewer.
