Magic bugs in Yunnan! They, you are seeing them for the first time...

"Yunnan Bug Valley" has triggered heated discussions as soon as it was broadcast, in addition to the thrilling plot and amazing special effects, the "magical animals and plants" and "paradise of bugs" in Yunnan in the play have also aroused the curiosity of the audience. In Yunnan biodiversity, "insects" are an indispensable and important part, from which you can also glimpse the beauty of Yunnan's magnificent biodiversity. Let's take a look at some of the new insect species discovered this year.

Researchers have discovered a new species of the silk bug family in the spider web of the tarantula family Horse spider genus in the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and named it Banna silk bug. This discovery marks the addition of a new record family of insects in China. At the same time, this is the first time in the world that silk bug parasites have been found in the spider webs of the tarantula family.

Silk bugs are a class of insects with very specific habits, usually living on the webs of spiders or foot silk ants (spinosaurs), coming and going freely on the silk line, feeding on prey or food debris on the host web.

On May 11, a group of 6 people from the Dali University Science Examination Group found a male and a female in the area of the South Rolling River, two baboon spiders, which were called bird-catching spiders because of sexual cruelty. This is the first time that a bird-catching spider, a world-endangered species, has been found in the reserve.

Bird-catching spiders are large, adult spiders are generally more than 10 cm long, and venomous glands are open at the ends of the claws and can secrete venom. Bird-catching spiders are densely hairy and are a burrowing group, using radial spider silk at the mouth of the cave to sense the distance of the prey from the mouth of the hole. Bird-catching spiders hide in their nests during the day, lie at the mouth of the cave at night, and once the prey is close to the mouth of the cave, they hunt and kill the prey with lightning speed.

The David amphibian armor was originally collected in 1870 in Baoxing, Sichuan Province, by Father David, who discovered the giant panda, and later described and named by the French entomologist Lucas in 1882. Originating in the Triassic Period, amphibians have a long history of evolution, and are a relict taxon, which can be called the "living fossil" of beetles.

For a long time, the known origin of David's amphibian nail was only in western Sichuan. This discovery extends its distribution range by nearly 500 kilometers to the south, verifies the fauna between Dali Cangshan and Hengduan Mountain Range, and is of great scientific value for studying the glaciation activity of the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the migration of glacial animals on the earth.

The Research Group of Evolutionary Genomics and Gene Origin of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, found three new species of fireflies in 3 places: alpine flat fireflies were found in Yulong, Lijiang, near Palanquin Mountain in Lushu Yi and Miao Autonomous County, and giant-breasted flat fireflies were found in Huangmaoling Township, Yuanyang County, Honghe Hani And Yi Autonomous Prefecture.

In August this year, plant professionals and technicians at the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of the Ailao Mountain Forest Ecosystem in Yunnan province encountered a beautiful Xichang net-winged cicada at the Ailao Mountain Ecological Station in Jingdong.

Xichang net-winged cicada, also known as Cheng's net-winged cicada, is a hemiptera, cicada family, inhabiting densely vegetated forest areas. Its color is brilliant and extremely ornamental. There are many kinds of cicadas in Jingdong County, and in the summer and autumn, cicadas can be heard everywhere, but it is the first time that photos of Xichang net winged cicadas have been taken. It is reported that the Xichang net winged cicada is mostly distributed in Sichuan and Chongqing.

The holly silkworm moth has a peculiar shape, wearing two iron leaf-like antennae on its head and two pairs of huge wings. What is particularly striking is that the moth's wings take on the shape of a snake's head at both ends, as if two large snakes are staring around with intimidating eyes.

Holly large silkworm moth belongs to the genus of giant silkworm moths in the family Lepidoptera macromothidae. Because of its large wings and brilliant color, it is like a bird when flying at night, and it is also known as the "phoenix moth". The holly silkworm moth and the giant silkworm moth, known as the "Big Mac" of the insect world, belong to the same genus of giant silkworm moths, and their appearance is also very similar, so it is often confused with the two.

The Cangshan grasshopper was discovered and named by the research group of Professor Mao Benyong of the "Comprehensive Scientific Expedition Project of The Erhai National Nature Reserve in Cangshan, Yunnan" of the College of Agronomy and Biological Sciences of Dali University during the biological expedition to Cangshan, which is the third kind of grasshopper discovered by the team in Cangshan so far.

Cangshan grasshoppers are a small family of orthoptera insects belonging to the family Grasshoppers of the family Locustaceae. The Grasshopper species in dali Cang'er area are relatively rich, of which only 8 species of grasshoppers are known to be distributed in Cangshan, namely Cangshan Grasshopper, Boyuan Ke grasshopper, long-winged grasshopper, tumor shoulder grasshopper, white-sided grasshopper, Erhai grasshopper, Cangshan Platform grasshopper and Cangshan wingless grasshopper.
