The painter should have a rich imagination and show it through good skills, so that the painter's own imagination can infect the audience, so that the audience can also imagine and participate in the "creation".

However, imagination must be based on life, otherwise imagination will become a passive water, and even jokes. I used to live in the northwest of my motherland, often going deep into the frontier. It's far from the city, donkeys are an important means of transportation, and almost every family has donkeys. Because the more you see, the more you paint. The more you paint, the more you feel that the donkey is very cute, and the more you paint, the more you feel that you need to deepen your understanding of the donkey, and you need to further examine its physical structure. I used to overlook several important things about donkeys. When I first started painting donkeys, I didn't pay much attention to the characteristics of donkey ears. Later, it was found that its ears were flexible, and it moved back and forth when it heard the sound. When it takes a step, there is a certain law for which step goes first. Like the Terracotta Warriors in the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, when the face of the bronze horse is turned to the right, the tongue must be to the left; when the head is turned to the left, the tongue must be to the right. The craftsmen who shaped the terracotta warriors observed the horses very carefully, not by imagination, but with realistic basis.

I have been painting donkeys for many years, and as for how donkeys walk I don't know, and I'm sure many people don't necessarily know. The four legs of a donkey are different from the legs of a human, and you cannot step on the left leg at the same time when you step on the right leg. I also found that some paintings, including donkeys or other four-legged animals painted by the ancients, walked on the front and back legs on the right side, which was not OK. Donkeys and people walk like that, and it is impossible to come out with their right hands and right feet, and with their left hands and left legs. A man can still stand with his left hand and his left foot, but the donkey cannot stand, and he must wrestle.

Based on the accumulated materials, I strengthened my observation of the donkey day by day, and found it very difficult to draw the donkey well. I just want to observe the structure of the donkey, the shape of the donkey, and the life of the donkey as much as possible, and know more. At the same time, I want to exercise my pen and ink skills by drawing donkeys, and by drawing donkeys, which I am most familiar with, I absorb the techniques of previous masters, ancients and foreign people, as an experiment in practicing the basic skills.

I painted so many donkeys, and even had the privilege of raising donkeys and driving donkey carts to sell tofu during the Cultural Revolution. The more contact, the more you understand the movements, temperament, and personality of the donkey, the more you feel that the donkey is very cute, and the donkey you paint is also more emotional. Therefore, if you want to paint an animal well, you must concentrate on breaking through a little and giving one example to another; you must be less and fine, less is gained, and more is confused. This is good for the improvement of their own level and the change of their own pen and ink. This is not my invention, it is the experience of previous generations.

People think that I just paint donkeys, and I have to paint donkeys, and I have to paint donkeys, and nothing else. Painting and painting, I think some of the problems in life are still not solved. People in the Tarim region often ride donkeys and lead camels through the desert while blowing their own flutes made of eagle wings, admiring themselves as they walk. However, I had drawn a painting before 1978 showing a caravan of camels exploring the Tarim Desert. Many friends said that the painting was good. Later, a friend in Xinjiang named Ibrahimti, a scholar, said: "Your camel can be painted well, and the donkey you painted can't cross the desert!" I said, "You said no, I'll let it pass." He said, "That won't work!" The palm of a donkey that crosses the desert is not repaired, and it cannot sink in the sand. The donkey you painted not only has its palms repaired, but also nailed its hooves, and the iron thing will certainly not work in the desert. ”

I thanked him very much after listening to it, because he taught me an important lesson. I think I've done a good job, and it turns out that there is still such a joke in life! Therefore, painting and painting alone cannot be imagined, nor can it be based on information alone, there must be a life. In life, you must have feelings, and paint your own works with feelings and feelings. Of course, as a learning method, you can specialize in a certain point. If you get a certain point through, the other problems will be solved. It is also said that if there is a breakthrough in the brush and ink of painting, when you paint other things, you have a standard in your heart and confidence. This is my personal shallow opinion, the old seniors see laughter, the young seniors please advise (laughs).
