And River: Can you tell us about the origin of the Hauz pigeon?

Iwata: The distant pigeon breed of Hauz can be traced back to the pedigrees of Jan Aten and Blackhouse, and later Hauz introduced the pigeons of the German strong Hermes and used his famous pigeon Elza as the base breeder of the breed.

Hebert told me that the 1989 Barcelona race was a collection of almost all the belgian pigeons, including Cooper, and that three of the four pigeons from The Houses were prized, both in terms of the result and the homecoming rate.

And River: What pigeons did you bring in from Herbert?

Iwata: I think Hebert and his pigeons can be trusted, so after listening to a simple pedigree introduction, I asked him to catch eighty pigeons for me to choose. The main direction of attack in the loft of Herbert is the middle distance, and after confirming the use of his pigeons one by one, I felt that only one pigeon was suitable for flying long distances.

Wakawa: So your goal at that time was to focus on middle distance pigeons?

Iwata: Yes, since my own pigeons are of long-distance ancestry, I want to introduce short and medium-distance bloodlines as alien bloods. I chose the pigeons only by the feeling of the upper hand, and only the Hauz pigeons were of distant ancestry among the pigeons introduced.

And River: Do you not mind the pedigree when choosing pigeons?

Iwata: In many cases the pedigree does not fully reflect the performance of the pigeons, and the performance of the breeding pigeon descendants is often inconsistent with what is described on the paper. My approach is to buy it first, then release the descendants, and finally carefully study their pedigree. I used the more than fifty pigeons I introduced for three years to breed and test their descendants, and only 91-2806645 of the offspring in the year of introduction won 13th prizes of about 300 pigeons.

The following spring the release continued, and as a result the offspring of the heterogeneous pigeons flew out of speed and were the first to return to the flock of pigeons in this house, I was convinced that the descendants of the heterogeneous pigeons would be able to make a difference in future races.

And river: first carry out the release test and then analyze the bloodline, this practice is very unique.

Iwata: Later, after a closer look at the pedigree, I found that there were breeders from Sanjays' loft and knew that his pigeons had been awarded the best in Germany.

And river: Sanjays is still a strange name for the Japanese pigeon world.

Iwata: I didn't know this person before. The spelling of his name is "SOONTJES", which can also be pronounced "Song Jieshi". In order not to be confused with the Dutch master ZOONTJES, I have always referred to him as "Sanjays".

And the river: Song Jais is a Dutchman who races short distances with Jansen pigeons, while Sanjes is a pigeon breeder from the Belgian province of Antwerpen.

Iwata: There was only one Sanjes pigeon introduced through Herbert, but unfortunately by the time I started my search for Sanjay, the pigeon breeder had already finished breeding.

And River: What inspired you to introduce The Sanjays pigeon?

Iwata: In 1993 I received a courier from Belgian fancier Rosen Persia, in which there was an introduction to the Sanjays, saying that "Joss Sanjay is one of the fastest flying pigeons in Belgium, and the pedigree of this line is bred by close relatives of a dense cousin".

The three pillars of the Loft of Rosen are the pigeons of Gurondras, Carrans and Sanjays, and the information he sent by chance caught my attention and I became interested in The Sanjays pigeons after reading it in one sitting.

blossoms inside the wall and incense outside the wall

Iwata: Rosen has a middle distance pigeon Olympic in the loft, which was rated as a middle distance sporting champion at the Olympic tasting in the Canary Islands in 1991. Both of the Olympiad's parents are of Sanjei lineage, and his father, Fangde, is a peer of Computer One and Computer Two.

And the river: This pigeon is the main player in the scoring of the sanjes loft.

Iwata: The mother of the Olympic is the base breeder of The Sanjays loft, Wright Tom (6080) with Feheisterletin (8022), and the Son Wright Tom (87-6407799), who is now a precious breeder in my loft, is also born 6080 with 8022.

Sanjes pigeons are only known to some fanciers in Belgium, but they are quite famous in the UK and there are many introductions to sanjes pigeons in pigeon magazines. However, pigeons directly from The Sanjays loft are rare in the UK, as Sanjes retired and transferred all the pigeons to Herbert and Prussian Rosen, who owned a considerable part of the Sanjays pigeons that I bought.

And River: Although the Sanjays pigeon became popular in the UK, the pigeons were not yet famous when you discovered their value. Why did you dare to introduce the nameless pigeon breed as a foreign blood?

Iwata: It took a bit of hesitation to mix the bloodline of the nameless pigeon loft into the main bloodline of the house, but the effect of the introduction can say it all. No matter what others think, I have confidence in what I think of as a pigeon.

The Sanjays in my loft started with only one pigeon, but then developed into five, ten, thirty and fifty pigeons, and now there are more than one hundred and fifty pigeons.

Last spring's 500 km RG, 1100 km CH, 800 km GP and autumn 500 km RG race, the fastest pigeons in my loft were all cross-bred between Iwata and Sanjes.

A friend of mine who visited Belgium last year told the editor-in-chief of a pigeon magazine about the success of The Sanjays pigeons in my loft, and the editor-in-chief was surprised and said, "The Sanjays pigeons can only fly a medium distance, and it is incredible to return from Hokkaido and win the first prize!" ”

The Belgian fancier may be right, as I am not using pure Sanjays pigeons. The reason for my success is that my long-distance pigeon breed is very "compatible" with the Sanjes, and the key to the "match" is that the Sanjays breed with Tom as the core is also of inbreeding blood.

Andhe: I think so too, because belgian pigeons are qualitatively different from your pigeons.

Iwata: The Iwata breed is bred over decades of inbreeding, and it is easier to have an advantage when hybridizing with other inbreeding bloodlines, and the desired result has been seen many times before.

And River: Hybridization is carried out with two different inbreeding bloodlines, with the aim of obtaining a generation of hybrids.

If both pure lines have excellent qualities, their fusion can often form a new powerful driving force. Your success is also a testament to the superior performance of the Iwata breeders, otherwise the Sanjays pigeons could have flown well in the local area and crossed with other bloodlines.

In 1998, Iwata Loft won all but the top thirteen prizes except the third prize in the N Race in the Tokai region, and in the 1308 tokai CH race, four pigeons from Iwata Loft finished in the top 10 and fifteen pigeons in the top 50.

The long-lived pigeon master has won the crown prize, the highest prize in the Japanese pigeon world---, for the third time with a series of impressive results. One of the important reasons for Mr. Iwata's success is the attention and continuous introduction of the Sanjays as a cross-breed from 1991, which has made the superior performance of the two bloodlines a clever fusion by hybridizing with the pigeons.

< h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" > Sanjays and Jansen

And river: Mr. Iwata's unique selection of the Sanjes as a cross-breed and the discovery of the excellent breeding pigeons in this line through performance verification are important factors for success.

However, I think the reason why the sanjes' fast performance has been able to play in long distance races is that the Iwata pigeons, who are of basic pedigree, are indispensable.

Iwata: For a long time, I have made it my goal to be able to adapt to the harsh racing environment of Japan, and I have strived to improve the speed on this basis.

Offspring cross-bred with Sanjays can tolerate bad weather and fly at a certain speed. The Jensen breed is universally recognized as a fast pigeon breed and I think that if used well, the descendants of the Jensen pigeons are well qualified for long distance racing.

And the river: Jensen pigeons do have unrivalled outstanding performance.

Iwata: Pigeons of any lineage can disappear due to accidents in many releases, and Sanjays pigeons are no exception, so I stopped using them after two or three long distances.

Pigeons with one-half Sanje's ancestry have no difference in homecoming rates in long distance races as the pure Iwata breed, although I have not conducted a release test with pure Sanjes.

And River: Can you tell us about the bloodline of the Sanjays pigeons?

Iwata: I don't know, too. The source pigeons that make up the series contain Jensen's lineage, and Sanjays himself has used Jensen pigeons as a cross-blood, and the basic breeder of this line, Wright Tom, has plumage from the Jensen line.

Hehe: Didn't you breed the breeders with the Sanjez breeders to confirm the performance of their offspring?

Iwata: I didn't plan to do this experiment in the first place, and now it's not necessary.

Emile Dennis found it unbelievable that the Sanjays pigeons had returned from Hokkaido, and also showed from one side that the Sanjays pigeons can be vulnerable at long distances, and if they were used as a different blood in other lofts, it could have a completely different result.

And the river: Jensen pigeons are easy to lose, because the speed is inversely proportional to the homecoming rate.

Iwata: Exactly. Jensen's pigeons are fast and can easily fly in the wrong direction due to fatigue affecting the orientation in bad weather. Thanks to this performance, Jensen pigeons are easy to lose even in close races.

Perhaps the probability of disappearance of the Sanjays and Jansen pigeons is similar, but it is only because of the hybridization with the Iwata line that the homecoming rate has been improved. I also considered this aspect when introducing the Sanjays breed as a cross-breed, but fortunately I was able to achieve a successful result by chance.

< h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" > the feeling of pigeon recognition

Iwata: I have only imported pigeons through Herbert in the last eight years, mainly because of my trust in his character.

And the river: the pigeon is the first to judge people.

Iwata: In addition to being a good character, you must also be proficient in pigeons and have a keen eye for pigeons.

Wakawa: Mr. Iwata was able to unearth pigeon breeds that are not valued in his country, indicating that he has a strong ability in pigeon hunting.

Iwata: I see pigeons only on their own "feelings", which are often indescribable, for example, I sometimes use my intuition to keep a pigeon that has returned to the nest and even reuse its bloodline later.

And river: There are many fanciers who first think of the pedigree of the pigeons when choosing a breed.

Iwata: What is important is the performance of the pigeons themselves. One or two releases may not be able to fully exploit the pigeons' abilities, and some pigeons do not produce results after flying for three or four years. There is a lot of knowledge that pigeons teach us, especially when the descendants of old pigeons who have entered the cold palace fly out of the results.

And the river: Some pigeons do have to be of a certain age to play to their advantage, for example Van Bulian's famous "Maverick" was born in 1947 and it was not until 1952 that it became a national champion of Pau.

Its parent pigeon, the Old Cow, was born in 1932, and the Calf was born when he was fifteen years old. The famous pigeon Tazan was born in 1948 and became a 1st Berma in Saint-Bastion in 1953. Tazan was born when its father was ten years old.

This also means that outstanding older cocks can still be bred and may even breed the best offspring at the age of ten or fifteen.

Iwata: The birth of famous pigeons is not easy, and perhaps breeding pigeons have a certain period of their best breeding.

Hehe: Not all good breeding pigeons have to take many years to produce good pigeons, and pigeon breeders don't leave them idle for ten years, the above examples just show that breeding racing pigeons requires a lot of patience.

Iwata: So don't let the breeding pigeons be eliminated rashly based on the results of one or two years of verification by future generations, but the pigeons that you identify should remain in the breeding loft even if the descendants have not yet produced results, so that you have the opportunity to re-recognize their true value after a few years.

Postscript: Over the years there has been a debate about whether long-distance pigeons can be paired with short-distance pigeons, and even earlier records in Europe have also had many successful cases of Jensen and Jan Aten, whether the pairing between long and short distance pigeons can be successful.

One is whether the two long and short pigeon breeds used for hybridization are themselves sufficiently pure enough to have a relatively stable genetics.

Whether the two pigeon breeds have a good degree of integration,

The three are the biggest hybrid advantages mostly occur in the hybrid sub-generation, and then if you use the excellent sub-generation to do the seed, there must be a separation phenomenon that is, genetic instability, which is the biggest reason for the poor effect of buying hybrid pigeons, so it is necessary to have the action of returning to the original pigeon breed, and then do hybridization after one generation, the heredity will be relatively stable, and the success rate is also higher.
