Mastitis: breastfeeding is possible
Mastitis occurs during lactation, mostly Staphylococcus aureus infection.
But breast milk contains antibodies, and the baby will develop resistance after eating.
In addition, in general, the pus produced by mastitis does not flow to the milk ducts and drains from the milk, which means that it will not be sucked by the baby. Therefore, it is possible to breastfeed with mastitis.
The neonatal department of Hunan Guangxiu Hospital recommends that mothers suspend breastfeeding on the affected breast, but express and empty the milk in time, and breasts on the healthy side breasts are fed normally.
Cold and fever: can breastfeed
1. Breastfeeding reduces the incidence of respiratory infections in infants;
2. If it is influenza, it is recommended to isolate the mother and baby for the first 2-3 days of the onset, at which time the milk can be sucked out or expressed without special treatment, and others will breastfeed through the bottle;

Hepatitis B: Can breastfeed
1. Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) positive, nipple rupture, bleeding, etc., can be breastfed;
2. The baby can be breastfed immediately after birth, without first injecting hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG);
3. For mothers who start antiviral medication for the purpose of reducing mother-to-child transmission in the third trimester, the drug should be stopped immediately after childbirth and the newborn should be breastfed; Breastfeeding should not be abandoned for mothers who must continue taking medication after childbirth.
Tuberculosis: breastfeeding should be individualized
1. Active tuberculosis without formal treatment, the mother must be isolated from the baby;
2. Active tuberculosis after formal treatment≥ 2 weeks and sputum tuberculosis negative, can be released from isolation, can also be directly breastfed;
3. When the mother takes anti-tuberculosis drugs, she can still breastfeed;
4. If the mother and her offspring are taking anti-tuberculosis drugs, they can choose to breastfeed before or just after the mother takes the drug, or refrigerate or freeze the milk after expressing it, and avoid breastfeeding with the mother's milk about 2 hours after taking the drug;
The neonatal department of Hunan Guangxiu Hospital reminds that the cases in which direct breastfeeding cannot be carried out include: tuberculosis was diagnosed during pregnancy, and treatment has not been started at the time of delivery; Treatment has been started but sputum tuberculosis is positive; Tuberculosis of the mammary glands; Broken nipples or breasts; Co-infection with HIV.
Syphilis: can breastfeed after regular treatment
1. Patients with syphilis in pregnancy who have received standard treatment before childbirth can breastfeed after childbirth regardless of the antibody titers;
2. Those who have not been treated regularly before delivery or diagnosed only 1-2 weeks before delivery, it is recommended to suspend direct breastfeeding, but breastfeeding can be carried out after milk disinfection, and treatment can be carried out as soon as possible, and direct breastfeeding can be carried out after the end of the course.
● Impact of vaccination:
1. Vaccination of lactating women:
Normal breastfeeding after receiving all inactivated vaccines (dead vaccines);
Breastfeeding is possible when receiving other attenuated vaccines;
The attenuated yellow fever vaccine (live vaccine) cannot be given and breastfeeding must be stopped if it is necessary.
2. Infant vaccination:
Any vaccination of the infant does not affect breastfeeding.
● Inability to breastfeed in these conditions:
Galactosemia in infants, active tuberculosis in the mother, radiation treatment, chemotherapy and certain medications, drug use, active herpes of the breast, and viral infections such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and human T-cell virus (HTLV).
