Inspired by his talent as a young man, Eugène Henri Cauchois (France, 1850–1911) left his hometown of Rouen to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied under Ferdinand Dubock and later with Alexandre Cabanel, one of the most admired artists of mid-19th-century fashion Paris. As a student, Cauchois assisted his teachers in making elaborate decorative panels for the most fashionable aristocratic residences in Paris, as well as for his work as a court painter, for the palaces of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie.
