To build a neutrino telescope at a depth of 3 kilometers, the pathfinder project team of the "Hailing Project" of Shanghai Jiaotong University set off today

On September 1st, the "Hailing Project" Pathfinder Project held a ceremony at the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Minhang Campus. The "Hailing Project" will build China's first high-energy neutrino telescope project in the deep sea below 3 kilometers, mainly to study extreme celestial phenomena, such as the origin of cosmic rays, and to build a complete multi-messenger astronomical network in China.

The "Seabell Project" will be a large scientific device that can lead the cutting-edge intersection research of particle physics, astrophysics, geophysics, marine geography, marine life, etc., and has the great potential to breed a number of original scientific discoveries.

As a pre-research demonstration project of the "Hailing Project", the "Hailing Project" pathfinder project team is composed of more than 30 researchers and technicians from the Li Zhengdao Research Institute, the School of Physics and Astronomy, the School of Naval Oceanography and Architectural Engineering, the School of Oceanography, the School of Oceanography, the Educational Technology Center, peking university, Tsinghua University, the University of Science and Technology of China, the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources, etc., who will go to sea in the near future to carry out a 10-day scientific expedition. This scientific expedition will provide key data for the site selection of internationally competitive neutrino telescopes in China's waters, and we look forward to their safe and victorious return!

Xu Donglian, chief scientist and chief technical engineer of the "Hailing Project" and a scholar of Li Zhengdao, is a post-80s scientist who has participated in many major scientific research projects in Daya Bay, and she spoke on behalf of the project team at the expedition ceremony. On behalf of all the teachers and students of the Lee Jeong Dao Research Institute, Professor Tsutum Yanagida presented Xu Donglian with the jewelry he made by himself, and extended his sincere blessings to the pathfinder project team of the "Sea Bell Project".
