Michelangelo's "David" made an American headmistress lose her job

Portrait of Michelangelo

Michelangelo probably wouldn't have imagined that 500 years later, his sculpture would cost an American elementary school headmistress her job.

Here's what happened.

The British "Daily Mail" reported on March 23 that Hope Carrasquilla, the headmistress of a local charter school, taught art history to sixth-grade elementary school students when she talked about Michelangelo, one of the three masters of the Italian Renaissance. In order to let the students appreciate what Master Mi's sculpture looks like, Principal Huo used a complete picture of the "David" statue.

Michelangelo's David, now in the collection of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.

That's right, it's the bare-assed David statue that everyone sees in all kinds of art history books.

This picture, adults have become accustomed to it, and Principal Huo did not feel anything wrong, after all, it has been used for so many years. But what happened next caught him by surprise.

In anger, the parents of the three students complained to the school board, saying their children were feeling upset after seeing the image. "Why show children such pornographic pictures?" Parents questioned that such a principal hurt the child's psyche, and parents felt offended.

Upon receiving the complaint, the leaders of the school board can be said to attach great importance to it, rushed to the school where the incident occurred as soon as possible to investigate, and ordered Principal Huo to submit his resignation as quickly as possible, otherwise he would be dismissed. The board said that it will work with parents to build a strong defense line of education safety and prevent the recurrence of incidents of naked male images that hurt students' hearts.

The positive and rapid handling of the board of directors was highly praised by the parents of the three students.

So the question is, the Renaissance is an important part of the art history course, Michelangelo's "David" is another master and one of the most important works of that period, if "David" will dirty the eyes of students, then Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvians", Raphael's large number of paintings of the bare ass saint son should not appear?

I don't know if the sixth grade curriculum of mainland primary school will involve this kind of curriculum. How to deal with photos of exposed and sensitive parts like "David"?

Principal Huo was ordered to resign because he used a famous photo, which is indeed a bit surprising. I think Principal Huo must be unconvinced in his heart.
