Snooker star John Higgins made a financial donation to Craigneuk Amateurs AFC to build 'The Humph' at Craigneuk Amateur AFC.

Craigneuk Amateurs AFC celebrated its 25th anniversary this year with the intention of transforming the Park Stadium into a community centre for other teams and youth teams to use.

The funds donated by Higgins will be used to level the pitch and improve the course drainage system.

John Collins, manager of Craigneuk Amateurs AFC, told the media that he hoped the renovation would truly benefit the local population and the community in which he lived.

"This donation from John is a huge help to us and it's great that someone like John who is passionate about the local community can donate generously," he said. ”

"John's family, all from Craigneuk, know the history of 'The Humph' stadium and John himself lived here."

"This donation has been properly arranged and will be used for a stadium improvement project that starts next week."

"John got in touch with me personally and said he was interested in helping us and even wanted to start playing with us after the Park Stadium was repaired."

"This park has a deep history, with some well-known players such as Billy McNeil (MBE, a legendary Celtic club star in the Soviet Premier League) playing here."

"Park Stadium has been abandoned for a while, but John is keen to get The Humph back to its former glory and get the local community really involved."

Collins added: "The local community really supports this maintenance project and people are always asking when the park pitch will be repaired and when they will be able to come and watch the game. ”

"In addition to that, we have a lot of support from local businesses and King Lud has raised some money for us."

"It's really a community co-construction project, and actually the whole community is excited about the maintenance program, which makes the return of the park pitch even more valuable."
