What went wrong with Battlefield 2042? Many have been asking this question since last year's near-catastrophic release of Battlefield 2042, and Vince Zampera probably thought more than most. The Respawn Entertainment founder, who was put in charge of Battlefield after last year's missteps, blamed Battlefield 2042's problems on a lack of iteration and refinement of new ideas in a new interview with Barron's.

Thankfully, Battlefield 2042's problems probably won't continue, as Zampella promises to give developers the right amount of time to make something exciting. This means that we may not see our next Battlefield game for a while, but hopefully it will end up being more popular.

Oh yes, any battlefield game led by Zampella will have a single-player campaign.

For those not keeping up, the next battlefield will be a co-production by DICE, Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA) and Ridgeline Games, a new studio recently founded in Seattle by Halo's longtime creative director Marcus Lehto. Ridgeline will be working on the story campaign for the new game.

What do you think? Has EA learned its lesson? Will Battlefield make a comeback under Zampella?
