Guo Wangang: The desert is now an oasis The barren land is full of life

In the past two years, in the Eight-Step Sand Forest Farm in Gulang County, Gansu Province, Guo Wangang, the director of the field, while doing a good job in sand control, has also taken on another job - to explain the story of the three generations of Eight Steps Sand who came to visit The Eight Steps Sand continued to struggle and control sand and afforestation.

Among the second generation of sand control people in the eight-step sand forest farm, Guo Wangang is the oldest and the longest one in sand control. In 1983, 31-year-old Guo Wangang gave up the "iron rice bowl" of working in the supply and marketing cooperative, carried the sand control shovel, and came to the eight steps of sand, which was 38 years.

Guo Wangang and the six brothers of the second generation of sand control people, adhering to the green commitment of their fathers, from the spirited youth to the old man with white sideburns, the two generations planted more than 10 million trees in the eight-step sand, treated 75,000 acres of desert, and formed a green corridor of windproof sand fixation 10 kilometers long from north to south and 8 kilometers wide from east to west. The greening of the forest farm has protected the surrounding 100,000 mu of farmland, ensuring the unimpeded flow of west-to-east gas transmission, west-to-east oil transmission, dry (tang) Wu (Wei) railway and provincial highway 308.

After the complete eradication of the eight-step sand, in 2003, Guo Wangang took the initiative to ask for help and led the sand control team to the Tengger Desert, 25 kilometers away from the forest farm. They spent more than 10 spring and autumn in shacks built at the sand control site, planted 75,000 acres of trees in the hinterland of the Tengger Desert, and recreated an eight-step sand.
