Operation Pearl Harbor, Formation Of the South Cloud Mobile Force

(1) First alert sailing formation

November 26, 1941 0900

The South Cloud Mobile Force set sail from Single Crown Bay and sailed toward the Pacific Ocean.

(2) Fifth alert sailing formation

December 7, 1941, 1300-1720 (Tokyo time)

The South Cloud Mobile Force switched to the Fifth Alert Sailing Formation and advanced towards Oahu.

(3) Sixth alert sailing formation

December 8, 1941 at 3 a.m

The South Cloud Mobile Unit switched to the Sixth Alert Navigation Formation and prepared to take off the first wave of fighters to conduct an air raid on Pearl Harbor.

(4) Twelfth Alert Navigation Formation (Anti-Submarine Formation)

December 14, 1941

The South Cloud Mobile Force approached Midway island and was at risk of being spotted by U.S. reconnaissance aircraft.

The maneuver force was converted to the Twelfth Alert Sailing Formation to protect against attacks by American submarines.

The Twelfth Alert Sailing Formation exists in two versions, daytime and nocturnal.

The daytime version of the First Mine Warfare Team and the 8th Squadron's two heavy cruisers, Lygan and Chikuma, will be organized into an anti-submarine geese formation (60 degree angle) to conduct anti-submarine searches in front of the main ships of the mobile force.

The night version of the First Mine Warfare Squadron will send two destroyers forward and deployed at a distance of 4 kilometers from 30 degrees to the side of the flagship Abukuma.
