Q: How did you get involved with Aunt Xicheng? What was my original intention to become a Ping An volunteer?
Zhang Xiulan: I am a republic peer, born under the red flag, raised under the red flag, and I am 72 years old this year. I was a statistician before I retired, and I was indeed asked, I am retired, why do I have to volunteer in the community? In fact, for me, it was the Xicheng Aunt Ping An volunteer team that gave me a platform to shine and dedicate to others. My father was an advanced worker in the unit, doing everything to the best, even seven days and seven nights in the production line, and was a model worker in the factory. Influenced by my father, I was determined to be a useful person to society, and I decided to join the Communist Party of China and grow up with New China.
However, when I was young, my father-in-law suffered from cerebral thrombosis at home and needed careful care, and I was afraid that I would not be able to perform my duties wholeheartedly in my job, so I never dared to apply for membership in the party. Until 2011, I came to the Gangyuan community, became a volunteer, without the concern of my family, I wanted to continue to pursue my ideals, and finally in 2015 I gloriously joined the Communist Party of China and became a party member. Since that day, my party emblem has been worn on my chest, and the responsibility in my heart has become heavier, and I will continue to shine in the post of Ping An volunteer, serve and dedicate others, and be the leader of volunteer service.
Q: I heard that you are affectionately known as the "community barber" in the community, what is the story of this?
Zhang Xiulan: At the beginning of learning haircuts, it was to take care of the paralyzed father-in-law at home, the old man was not convenient to go out, so I bought a pusher to push the hair, and gave the old man a haircut at home. At that time, it was still the kind of old-fashioned fader connected to the wire, waiting for the elderly for more than 20 years, after the old man left, I thought that there must be many elderly people in the community who have haircut needs, they don't need any novel hairstyles, as long as they are clean and neat, I will take my own haircut craft to start carrying out voluntary haircuts in the community, about the 10th and 20th of each month to give haircuts to the elderly, and some elderly people are inconvenient to go out, I will take tools to the elderly to get haircuts, and the old people I have served are the oldest 98 years old.
Among them, there is also a grandma Li, paralyzed in bed, the daughter-in-law suffered from cerebellar atrophy, the son was laid off and re-employed, I would go to the door every month to give Grandma Li and her daughter-in-law a haircut, ask about the recent physical and living conditions. For me, voluntary haircuts have become more than just a volunteer service, but also a bridge for our volunteers to understand the needs of the elderly. Through voluntary haircuts, I became friends and family members with the elderly, chatting while getting haircuts, listening to the needs of the elderly, in order to better serve them.
Q: It must be very happy for the elderly in the community to have a barber like you by your side. You have also won the titles of "Filial Piety Star" and "Most Beautiful Family" before, how do you pass on the spirit of volunteerism?
Zhang Xiulan: I was deeply influenced by my father and grew up with New China, and my generation talked about dedication and service, and I also demanded this from the younger generations in my family. My son has been in the party for more than thirty years and has always been strict with himself; my daughter-in-law is a volunteer in their unit, and even my 12-year-old granddaughter is a small volunteer in the elderly mobile phone class. I believe that volunteerism is first and foremost a word that is passed on and passed on in one's own family. In the community, I use practical actions to drive more people to participate in volunteer service, and I am not only volunteering in the Gangyuan community, but also a volunteer in the streets of Linxiao Road in Daxing District, which is my hometown, and when I encounter important activities that need to be on duty, I will intersperse time on duty at both ends, both sides are my home, and neither can be delayed.
Just past the National Day seven days off, as long as the community arranges duty, I am on time to work, on call. Two days ago I carried out the first voluntary haircut in October, the previous barber tools were bought at my own expense, and now the community provides support for volunteer service, which I don't have to worry about, I have to work harder to do volunteer service.
Q: The story of your example and the inheritance of the spirit of volunteerism has touched us very much, and it is worth learning from us, as the monthly peace star selected by the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, how do you feel about volunteer service?
Zhang Xiulan: I think that a qualified volunteer should be diligent in dedication, dare to endure hardships, and take the lead in competing for the lead, because our volunteers should play an exemplary role and set high standards for themselves. I am just a member of the Xicheng District Ping An volunteer team, but also the epitome of thousands of volunteers, the honorary title of "Peace Star", belongs to our Xicheng Big Mama team, we will continue to shine in the community, let ourselves be like the stars in the sky, although there is only the light of fireworks, but we still have the heart to the sun, emit all the light, and guard the safety of the community.
