She supports Rick Caruso, an Italian-American real estate developer and former USC board chair. The billionaire, a Republican-turned-independent, said his political stance had shifted to the Democratic Party after considering running for mayor of Los Angeles, which has a large Democratic support, and ran as a Democrat.
According to the Los Angeles Times, although Caruso has donated money to both Democratic and Republican politicians, most of the political donations have gone to Republicans, including George W. Bush, who has taken an anti-abortion stance, and Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. In addition, Caruso has donated money to the Republican National Committee.
In the early days of his mayoral campaign in Los Angeles, Caruso's opponents used it to attack him, saying Caruso's past support for Republicans meant that if he was elected, it would threaten the women's rights guaranteed in Roe v. Wade.

Perry, for her part, had retweeted a video the day before in support of women's rights and called on people to vote. The BuzzFeed website described the video as a promotional video "in support of abortion rights."
