I lived in Malaysia for 7 years

In the summer of 2010, the child's father was sent to work overseas, when the child was also at the end of kindergarten life, ready to start the primary school life, we just wanted to take the child to see the outside world, so after careful consideration, I quit a stable job, one day in August with the 6-year-old Oliver left Shenzhen, boarded a red eye flight to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and began a wonderful and unforgettable journey in life. The child's father settled in Kuala Lumpur two months in advance, renting a downtown apartment, which is a relatively old apartment, only a high-rise apartment, and open the window to see Kuala Lumpur's landmark buildings --------- twin towers. There is a swimming pool and a tennis court downstairs, which I later discovered were almost standard in all apartments in Kuala Lumpur. The security guards were all very accommodating, we moved three times in Kuala Lumpur, but the security guards downstairs in each new home were very friendly and kind. When I first moved in, my dad worked during the day, and I took Oliver to KLCC shopping mall, park, supermarket, and slowly familiarized myself with the environment, hoping that we could integrate into life in Kuala Lumpur as soon as possible. After a short week of familiarizing myself with the environment, the first big thing I faced was to help Oliver find a school, because Dad was very busy at work, so I could only search the Internet for nearby international schools, write down the address, and start our long journey with the children. It is said that Malaysia's English penetration rate is the 8th in the world, and their Chinese is Malay, but almost all the people speak English, which makes our usual communication much easier. The Malays are very friendly, even if my half-hanging English, coupled with body language, can actually communicate with them, because we are only in August, good international school degrees need to apply in advance, some have to wait a semester, some even have to wait a year, and Oliver's English foundation is zero, so we can only apply in line to wait for school notices. At the same time, I began to send my children to an English training institution to learn English at the recommendation of a friend. I remember the first class, the teacher a simple "sit here", Oliver looked at me outside the classroom in a daze, the look of asking for help from me made me feel inexplicably distressed, after 2 hours of class, he almost did not understand at all, could not retreat, could only move forward, even if frustrated, there was a McDonald's downstairs of the training institution, during that time, after class to Eat an ice cream and chicken nuggets is Oliver's insistence on taking English cram classes. And most of the children who learn English in institutions are Chinese children, and the children will communicate with familiar Chinese after class, which also soothes his nervousness and uneasiness Two months later we received a notice from an international school near home that we can enroll, the environment of that school is not satisfactory, but at least the children can go to school, I continue to apply for a good school at the same time, but also let the child really start his school life. At the beginning, it was not smooth, the training institution and the school's learning has a big difference, the teachers in the classroom with the standard speed of English for the child to teach, the children in the classroom are also from all over the world, there are native English, there are Indian English mixed with a strong Indian accent, a moment will oliver's English level back to the original point, a day of class, he can not understand at all, and there is no friend who can communicate. This is a lonely and helpless experience for a 6-year-old. And this experience I learned from the teacher 10 days later, when I was still happy to send my children to school every day, after school, Oliver only lightly said "OK" made me think that the child's adaptability was really good. After 10 days the teacher said that he did not enter the classroom these days, he resisted entering the classroom, the teachers found a Chinese teacher who taught Chinese to accompany him, and found that there was a Chinese child in the next class, Oliver would sometimes go to him to play and say Chinese, the teacher told me and asked for my advice to help the child transfer to the next class, so oliver will slowly adapt to school life. At that time, my mood was mixed, on the one hand, I was sad for the child, on the other hand, I blamed the teacher for not telling me the actual situation of the child, and every time I picked up the child and asked the teacher, the teacher said that he had made progress, which was very good. Of course, Oliver didn't end up in the next class, and just two days after the teacher told me the truth, he was willing to go into the classroom, and sometimes played with his classmates after class, consciously imitating the classmates. However, the teacher solemnly interviewed me once when everything was on the right track of learning, and this interview made me really feel what education was and subverted my previous understanding of education. I was interviewed by the head teacher of a zhao class, a Filipino teacher, but the English was very spoken and could not hear a little accent, and first she was very excited to tell me that Oliver was a very smart and strong child, which surprised me. Then she began to talk about the child's experience in the past few days: "The child did not enter the classroom with his classmates, did not cry, sometimes chose to stay alone, sometimes he would always follow a teacher who could speak Chinese, these behaviors are the performance of his constant observation of the new environment he is in, so we did not tell you in time, lest you be too anxious and use excessive language or behavior to ask the child to enter the classroom, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that he had communication with a Chinese child. I only asked you about the transfer, but now it seems that the child has solved the problem on his own, which is very gratifying and happy. "In just 10 minutes of conversation, a mother who has not yet had time to worry has suddenly taken her to a pleasant paradise full of flowers, because, before I have time to experience heartache, before I have time to experience thoughts, my child has bravely crossed this hurdle on his own. And according to the previous educational ability, if I was told early that my child would not go to the classroom to go to school, I might wash my face with tears, or maybe I would be soft and hard, even if he entered the classroom, it may still not solve the problem. This was the first surprise I experienced abroad, the school carried everything, let the child learn to grow, experienced the first test of life. After about half a year, we decided to move to a neighborhood with a better environment, relatively quiet environment, and more space for activities. Very nice swimming pool with gym, outdoor basketball court. Also bought a local brand of scooter car, Malay because it is a Commonwealth country, so the steering wheel of the car is left-oriented, originally thought it would take a long time to adapt, but it took only three days, it was fully adapted, with the car to walk, it seems that there is no bondage, driving the beloved "little donkey", sending children to school, going to various supermarkets to buy vegetables to cook, and then picking up children from school, and then sending them to English training institutions to learn. Every day was full. I also made friends with many Chinese children in the neighborhood next door, swimming and playing together. To be continued
