Recently, severe floods in Pakistan have killed more than 1,000 people and displaced some 33 million people. According to CCTV News reported on the 30th, the Chinese government decided to provide Pakistan with 100 million yuan of emergency humanitarian assistance, including 25,000 tents and other disaster relief materials urgently needed by the Pakistani side.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on the 30th that in the morning, the Chinese Air Force sent a Y-20 transport aircraft to urgently aid Pakistan, which will transport 3,000 tents and other humanitarian relief materials, and is expected to arrive at Pakistan's Karachi airport at 4 p.m. Beijing time on the same day.

The Y-20 is a military large-scale multi-purpose transport aircraft independently developed and produced by China, which has the characteristics of long range, heavy load and fast speed, and is a strategic, iconic and leading equipment of the Air Force, and has participated in China International Air Shows and military parades for many times.

Jimu News reporters noted that in recent years, the Y-20 figure has traveled to Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania, and has played an important role in international humanitarian relief and material transportation. Since the beginning of this year, the Y-20 transport aircraft has carried out assistance and transport tasks many times.

This year, many international assistance missions have been carried out

In addition to this flight to Pakistan, the Y-20 has also delivered relief supplies to Tonga and Afghanistan this year.

On January 27 this year, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck near Tonga. On January 28, Beijing time, an air transport formation composed of the Chinese Air Force to Tonga to carry out the task of transporting disaster relief materials arrived in Tonga.

It was the Chinese star fighter Y-20 that carried out this mission, which was also the first time that the Y-20 went abroad to carry out a mission this year.

On June 22 this year, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on the border with Pakistan, killing more than 1,000 people and injuring nearly 2,000, the largest number of people killed in Afghanistan in 20 years.

According to Xinhua News Agency, after the earthquake, the Chinese government immediately decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance of 50 million yuan to Afghanistan.

At about 8:30 a.m. local time on June 28, two Y-20s carrying earthquake relief materials aided by the Chinese government in Afghanistan flew to Kabul Airport, including tents, towel quilts, folding beds and other items urgently needed by Afghan victims.

Wu Ram Ghaus, acting minister of the National Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs Department of the Afghan Interim Government, said at the scene of the handover ceremony of disaster relief materials on the same day that these materials are the most urgently needed materials in Afghanistan at present, and China's actions are the best embodiment of the friendship between the two peoples.

In an interview with the Global Times, military expert Zhang Xuefeng said that large military transport aircraft have unique advantages in carrying out such humanitarian assistance missions. The first is good take-off and landing performance, and the running distance is usually shorter than that of civil transport aircraft of the same tonnage or even smaller. Military transport aircraft can take off on unpaved runways or even dirt runways, and are highly adaptable to runways. In addition, military transport aircraft have large hatches and cargo silos, which can transport large equipment and are suitable for rapid loading and unloading.

Flying to Serbia attracted the attention of the West

In April this year, six Y-20s flew 22 sorties in three days to break NATO's air blockade of Serbia and deliver the weapons and equipment purchased by the Serbian side to their homes.

On April 11, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian confirmed that China had sent Y-20 large transport aircraft to deliver "conventional military materiel" to Serbia, which caused great concern in the West about the ultra-long-range air movement of the Chinese Air Force.

According to the US "Defense News" reported on April 12, after the first six Y-20s landed at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Serbia, on April 9, there were still Y-20s landing at the airport in the following days.

Defense News said that the Y-20 delivered to Serbia was a Chinese-made FK-3 medium- and long-range air defense missile (that is, a foreign trade model of the "Hongqi-22"), which had previously been selected by the Serbian military as the main weapon of the new generation of air defense.

The huge scale of airlift is unprecedented in the history of the Chinese Air Force, and it also shows the outside world China's powerful long-range strategic delivery capabilities.

According to the Global Network, Zhou Guoqiang, spokesman for the Aviation Industry Group of China, gave high affirmation to the performance of the Y-20 - "Our Y-20 does work."

He will be in Europe for international air shows

On August 26, the Air Force Aviation Open Event and Changchun Air Show opened in Changchun. At this year's Air Force Aviation Open Event, the "20 Series" fighters were all unveiled, and the Y-20 also carried out an aerial flight display.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Shen Jinke also revealed at the scene of the Air Force Aviation Opening Event on the 29th that the Air Force Y-20 will go to Europe for the first time to participate in the international air show.
