Relying on his maverick style and sharp words, there is probably nothing in this world that he does not dare to say, there is no one he does not dare to scold, even if he is falsely accused of going to prison by his friends for this, he is never willing to change his position, he is Li Ao, a literary master who has scolded people for a lifetime and loved the country for a lifetime.
He once said bluntly: "The previous drama of the bottle is not laughing, I am dead and the kings think of me madly." Even though it has been four years since his death, the world's evaluation of him is still mixed. What kind of wonderful life does such a contradictory person have? What makes him so unique?
The road to "scolding"
Born in April 1935 in Harbin, Heilongjiang, Li Ao followed his family to Beijing at the age of two, where he spent 12 years, carrying almost all the memories of his childhood. When he reached the age of study, his parents sent him to study at Beijing Xinxin Hutong Primary School near home, where he laid the roots of Li Ao's literature.
Li Ao's father, Li Huaixin, was once a historian and a writer, and once organized underground anti-Japanese activities during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Probably under the influence of his father, Li Ao, who was very young, also loved to read, and after entering primary school, he was even more reluctant to waste a moment of learning to read. Li Ao, who later became an adult, also admitted in his autobiography that the years of studying at Xinxin Hutong Primary School affected his lifelong Chinese literacy.

People are gone, but all the memories of what he experienced in this land of the mainland in the past fourteen years are still in Li Ao's mind, and he always tells himself that he was born in Chinese mainland, he is a Chinese, and he always stands on the position of Chinese.
In his days in Taiwan, Li Ao opened his legendary life and also opened his road of "bar essence". The earliest trace of Li Ao's "bar essence" life began in his junior high school, the rebellious spirit in his bones and the huge amount of reading, so that Li Ao, who has begun to understand things, has a scrutinizing attitude towards any literary work, at that time he already dared to express his views on authority. When he was a junior high school student at the time, he wrote to Qian Mu himself because he had doubts about some of the words in the historian Qian Mu's work "Outline of National History".
In 1961, at the age of 26, Li Ao published an essay in Wenxing magazine titled "The Old Man and the Stick," which allowed Li Ao's name to begin to spread among Taiwanese literary circles. Subsequently, "Wenxing" magazine boldly used Li Ao, a newcomer, and Li Ao did not disappoint "Wenxing", whose literary style was sharp, his speech was bold, and he dared to discuss the controversy between Chinese and Western cultures, which was sought after by many scholars for a time. It was also since then that Li Ao's literary style began to be out of control, the article was flawed in the needle, the words were used to the point, and his road of "scolding" was opened.
At that time, there was even a saying in Taiwan that "if you have not been scolded by Li Ao, it means that you are not popular enough."
As a generation of "scolding generals", Li Ao once openly criticized Lu Xun for not being a writer, because he had never written a long work, and believed that Lu Xun did not dare to scold Japan; When mentioning Long Yingtai, he is even more dismissive that this "small point" can't even get a decent short work; Even Jin Yong has been criticized for "the chivalrous spirit in the work is not reflected in reality at all"; Mr. Yu Guangzhong was also called "Horse Ass Writer"; Even Mr. Hu Shi, who was also a teacher and friend at the beginning, Li Ao was ruthlessly sarcastic because he did not look at his gentle resistance style.

At that time of political correctness, Li Ao's remarks were tantamount to a depth bomb, a stone stirred up a thousand waves, Chiang Kai-shek soon ordered Li Ao to be placed under house arrest, and in 1972, Li Ao was formally arrested for "rebellion" charges. In November 1976, Li Ao, who had been imprisoned for five years and eight months, was finally released from prison because he died in time for Chiang Kai-shek, and the Taiwan government was greatly reduced from prison. However, after he was released from prison, he obviously did not learn any lessons.

Even in the book "Trial of America", successive presidents of the United States have been criticized by him one by one, stripping the mask that the United States used to whitewash the peace, calling the United States "the scourge of other countries, the nightmare of mankind." Li Ao's books were always complete without any flowery rhetoric, without excessive embellishment, and even the language was vulgar, but they could always give the Kuomintang people at that time a blow just right.
Probably because the words of the books were too sharp, Li Ao had published more than a hundred books at that time, but more than ninety of them were banned. In June 2004, the then Taiwan authorities were preparing to spend NT$610.8 billion over 15 years to purchase a batch of military equipment from the United States. He has also sued Taiwan's political representatives and media leaders for his own justice, and even though his news in the political arena seems to be a bit arbitrary, he is obviously rigorous in his treatment of justice.
Such a Li Ao is really different from any of our traditional literati, if you must classify, his attitude towards life is more like our modern rock singer or singer, he is as deviant as they are, pursuing to be real himself, putting all his ideas into his own works. Perhaps in a society accustomed to wearing the mask of "hypocrisy", this kind of real is not acceptable to everyone, whether it is to say that he is vitriolous or arrogant, it is undeniable that he is indeed a complete patriot.
